Job summary

Nemours Children's Hospital in Orlando, Florida, is seeking Registered Nurses (NICU) to join our Level IV NICU team on a full-time basis. You will provide specialized care to critically ill newborns and collaborate with neonatologists, respiratory therapists, and families to deliver evidence-based, family-centered care.

The NICU program offers advanced therapies and close partnerships with maternal-fetal medicine, pediatric surgery, and cardiology.

Qualifications

  • ASN required and RN license active in FL or multi-state.
  • Pediatric RN experience preferred; NICU experience advantageous.
  • BLS required; NRP and STABLE to be obtained before start.
  • National certification in area of clinical specialty preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care in the NICU under physician direction.
  • Administer medications and treatments as prescribed.
  • Collaborate with neonatology team to develop care plans.
  • Educate and support families during neonatal care.

Education

ASN required
Active Florida or multi-state RN license
National certification in area of clinical specialty (preferred)
6 months RN experience (pediatric preferred)

Nemours is seeking Registered Nurses (NICU) FULL-TIME to join our Nemours Children's Hospital team in Orlando, Florida.

About Our Neonatology Program

Located in the heart of Lake Nona Medical City, Nemours Children's Hospital, Florida is home to an 18-bed Level IV NICU, featuring private, single-family rooms and advanced therapies, including:

  • Whole-body hypothermia
  • High-frequency ventilation
  • Inhaled nitric oxide
  • Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO)

Our neonatologists collaborate with maternal-fetal medicine, pediatric surgery, cardiology, and critical care to manage complex and rare conditions in neonates. The NICU also plays a central role in our Maternal‑Fetal Medicine and Fetal Care Programs, ensuring seamless prenatal to postnatal care for high‑risk pregnancies.

We serve as a regional referral center and maintain active partnerships with leading hospitals across Central Florida – including Lakeland Regional Health, HCA Florida Osceola Hospital, UCF Lake Nona Hospital, Tradition Medical Center, and Cleveland Clinic Martin Health – providing neonatology support from Level I to Level III NICUs throughout the region.

Practice of professional nursing

(a) The observation, assessment, nursing diagnosis, planning, intervention, and evaluation of care; health teaching and counseling of the ill, injured, or infirm; and the promotion of wellness, maintenance of health, and prevention of illness of others.

(b) The administration of medications and treatments as prescribed or authorized by a duly licensed practitioner authorized by the laws of this state to prescribe such medications and treatments.

(c) The supervision and teaching of other personnel in the theory and performance of any of the acts.

The Registered Nurse implements the patient care delivery model for the patient and their family.

  • Utilize policies, procedures, guidelines, and reliable methods to make clinical practice decisions.
  • Independently develop, implement, evaluate, and modify clinical practice matching formal knowledge with critical thinking and nursing skills.
  • Collect and interpret complex patient data with clinical events to make clinical decisions to meet individual patient and family needs.
  • Recognize and respond to the dynamic situation while sorting out extraneous detail and exercises clinical judgment based on an immediate grasp of the whole picture for the patient population of the assigned clinical area.
  • Engage in multidisciplinary collaboration, proactively seek expert consultation, and delegate to other clinicians, as appropriate, while using evidence-based guidelines.

  • Demonstrate knowledge seeking behaviors and identify clinical questions. Seek advice, resources, and/or education opportunities to improve patient care.

Job Requirements
  • ASN required
  • Active Florida or multi-state RN license, required
  • National certification in area of clinical specialty (preferred)
  • Minimum of 6 months of RN experience required, experience in pediatric specialty area, preferred
  • Valid American Heart Association BLS Certification; must be obtained within 30 days of hire
