Responsibilities

Under general supervision, provides nursing care in a hospital to a variety of patients with health problems ranging from simple to complex. Essential Responsibilities include:

• Assuming responsibility for an assigned group of patients.
• Documenting patient responses to nursing interventions and prescribed medical treatments; noting all changes in physician orders on assigned patients.
• Assisting physicians in patient examinations and minor diagnostic procedures.
• Obtaining and monitoring physiological data, observing manifestations, and intervening when necessary.
• Administering medications as prescribed.
• Initiating, regulating, and monitoring intravenous infusions and blood products.
• Delivering competent patient care.
• Interacting with family and patients regarding care plans during hospitalization and at discharge.
• Informing patients and families about hospital procedures.
• Referring patient care needs to appropriate personnel.
• Delegating tasks to support staff.

General Responsibilities

• Performing other duties as assigned.

Skills & Experience

Required:

• At least 1 year of nursing experience.
• Knowledge of professional nursing theory, practices, techniques, and procedures.
• Ability to organize, plan, coordinate, and evaluate nursing services.
• Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Ability to respond effectively to cultural and language needs.

Work Details

Shift: Nights

Schedule Notes: NIHSS required; ACLS for Step-down care providers required. Opportunity for overtime. Must work every other weekend. This is a comprehensive stroke center in a Trauma 1 Academic Hospital. Neuro/stroke experience preferred.
