Job summary

The SMH Level 2 Registered Nurse (RN) in the Neurology unit provides specialized care for patients with neurological conditions, including stroke, epilepsy, and MS. The RN will perform telemetry monitoring and participate in a multidisciplinary care team to implement patient care plans.

Responsibilities include accurate assessments, administration of medications, documentation in the EMR, and responding to emergencies.

Qualifications

• Active RN license in New York State.
• Minimum of two (2) years nursing experience.
• Telemetry monitoring experience.
• BLS certification from the American Heart Association.
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
• Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking in neurological care.

The SMH Level 2 Registered Nurse (RN) in the Neurology unit provides specialized nursing care to patients with neurological conditions such as stroke, epilepsy, Multiple Sclerosis, and Guillain Barre Syndrome. The RN utilizes critical thinking skills and telemetry monitoring in a fast-paced, interdisciplinary team environment. This role requires expertise in neurological patient care, collaboration with a multidisciplinary team, and adherence to high standards in a Joint Commission accredited Comprehensive Stroke Center and Level 4 Epilepsy Monitoring Unit.

Responsibilities:

• Provide skilled nursing care to patients with acute and complex neurological conditions.

Required Skills & Certifications:

• Active Registered Nurse license in New York State only.
• Minimum of two (2) years nursing experience.
• Telemetry experience required.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.

• Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills specific to neurological care.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• Experience working in a neurological or stroke unit.
• Familiarity with electronic health record systems, preferably EPIC.
• Additional certifications related to neurology or critical care nursing.

Special Considerations:

• Must be willing to work rotating day, evening, and night shifts.
• Availability to work weekends, holidays, on-call, and callback as needed.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment.
• Compliance with infection control and hospital safety protocols.

Scheduling:

• Rotating shifts including day, evening, and night shifts.
• Schedule includes weekends, holidays, and on-call/ callback duties as per unit needs.
• Up to 48 hours per week with regular time pay for all hours worked.
