Our Neuro Spine Med Surg unit has 24 beds with a 1:4-5 nurse to patient ratio. Patient types include stroke, neuro surgical (spinal fusions), biopsies, traumatic falls, head bleeds, craniotomies, and seizure patients. This is a fast-paced unit with quick patient turnover.

Schedule: Part-Time Nights (2x12-hour shifts per week)

Minimum Requirements:

  • At least 6 months of RN experience in Neuro Med/Surg acute setting
  • Acute care bedside experience required
  • BSN degree preferred due to Magnet status
  • 4-6 week training/orientation depending on individual needs

Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to deliver patient care, including assessments, exams, treatment assistance, patient education, and medical record maintenance. Memorial Hermann hires RNs based on experience levels, from newly licensed to over 10 years of experience.

Job Description

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Graduate of an accredited School of Professional Nursing; BSN preferred.

Licenses/Certifications:

  • Current Texas nursing license or temporary/compact license
  • Basic Life Support certification
  • Additional certifications as required by discipline or unit

Experience / Knowledge / Skills:

  • RN I: Less than 1 year
  • RN II: 1-3 years
  • RN III: 3-10 years
  • RN IV: 10+ years

Principal Accountabilities

  • Provide safe, appropriate care tailored to patient needs and age.
  • Coordinate care planning with the interdisciplinary team and make clinical decisions.
  • Collaborate, delegate, and direct healthcare team members to achieve positive outcomes, develop treatment and discharge plans.
  • Participate in program evaluation, process improvement, and outcome measurement.
  • Address the diverse needs of patients throughout the care continuum, ensuring high service standards and optimizing patient experience.
  • Follow all regulatory and Texas Board of Nursing standards.
  • Ensure safety for patients, staff, and visitors, adhering to hospital policies, procedures, and standards, within budget constraints.
  • Support professional growth through ongoing education and skills development; serve as preceptor or mentor if applicable.
  • Model compassionate, personalized care, embodying Memorial Hermann’s service standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
