Job Description

• General Medical and surgical units caring for a diverse population of patients with varying diagnoses including chronic illnesses such as COPD, Diabetes, CHF, and end-stage renal disease.
• Management of GI issues such as pancreatitis, bleeding, gastroparesis, and inflammatory bowel diseases.
• Care for infections including pneumonia, cellulitis, sepsis, UTI, and c-diff.
• Management of neurological issues such as stroke, dementia, and traumatic brain injuries.
• Support for patients with mental health disorders including depression, anxiety, and substance abuse.
• Procedures include colonoscopies, thoracentesis, paracentesis, bronchoscopy, and minor surgeries (lap chole, incision and drainage, biopsies, amputation).
• General Medical Surgical nursing care including assessments, care planning, inter-professional communication, and utilization of the EHR.
• Equipment utilized includes Epic electronic record, pyxis machines, Accucheck blood glucose, Hospira IV pumps, SCDs for VTE prevention, heating/cooling pads, and telemetry monitoring.
  
  

Critical Information

• Minimum one year Med Surg hospital experience required; two years preferred.
• Required certifications: BLS, IN State or compact RN license.
• Patient ratios are 1:5-6.
• Dress Code: Caribbean Blue scrubs.
• Floating to other medical units as needed.
• Supplemental staff must complete Jump Start orientation, including general hospital orientation and nursing orientation with Epic classes.
