This RN Medsurg role is on our Oncology Unit at Cobb Hospital.

Shift: 7pm-7am - 36-hour week.

Job Summary

The RN Clinical Nurse is a proactive member of an interdisciplinary team of licensed and unlicensed caregivers, ensuring patients, families, and significant others receive individualized, high-quality, safe care. They practice in a clinical environment managed by Nurse Managers and supported through the Wellstar Shared Governance Model, guided by the Wellstar Professional Practice Model, evidence-based practice, and research. RN competencies are derived from these models and aligned with the Wellstar Values.

All RN Clinical Nurses are expected to be licensed, knowledgeable, and uphold the practice standards outlined by the Georgia Professional Nurse Practice Act, implementing the Scope of Practice and Code of Ethics Standards by the American Nurses Association. As part of the patient services team, they uphold the voice of the patient, adhere to system policies and procedures, and support service excellence goals.

Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions
Exemplary Practice and Outcomes
  • Performs the Nursing Process (assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, evaluation) using evidence-based practice, critical thinking, and individualized care, coordinating care through effective partnerships.
  • Provides relationship-based, patient-centered care tailored to population-specific characteristics (age, gender, disease, etc.), reflecting cultural diversity.
  • Partners with patients and significant others through methods like bedside shift reports, interdisciplinary rounds, patient education, and updating patients on their care goals.
  • Practices according to current clinical standards.
Teamwork and Collaboration
  • Coordinates the delivery and documentation of safe, quality care, fostering inclusive communication and respectful environment.
  • Demonstrates teamwork by practicing responsibly and supporting staff recruitment and retention.
  • Supports performance improvement initiatives, research, and shared governance activities.
Professional Development and Initiative
  • Completes professional competency assessments, mandatory education, and population-specific training.
  • Serves as preceptor or mentor to promote workforce development and a healthy work environment.
Evidence-Based Practice and Research
  • Promotes evidence-based practice, research, and performance improvement, participating in data collection and clinical inquiry.
  • Adheres to healthcare policies, standards, and accreditation requirements, including safety goals.
Resources and Support
  • Plans patient care across the continuum, developing protocols and supporting resource-efficient practices.

Performs other duties as assigned and complies with all organizational policies and standards.

Minimum Education and Licenses
  • Associates or Bachelors in Nursing preferred.
  • Current RN license (single-state or multi-state compact).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required upon hire.
Experience and Skills
  • Less than 1 year of clinical experience required; completion of accredited nursing program with required clinical hours.
