Job description

Medical‑Surgical RN opportunity located in Salem, VA at a 500+ bed acute care hospital that specializes in heart and vascular care through a designated Heart Center, as well as orthopedics and spine care, mental and behavioral health, and cancer care.

The role

As a Medical‑Surgical RN, you will assess patient condition at admission and throughout each shift, promptly identifying and communicating changes in status to the care team. You will carry out provider‑ordered procedures and monitoring, maintain thorough and timely documentation in the patient medical record, and administer prescribed medications while monitoring for therapeutic response and managing any unintended reactions. A meaningful part of this role involves patient and family education — translating complex medical terminology into clear, accessible language so patients, families, and caregivers fully understand diagnoses, treatment plans, medications, and follow‑up care. Positions are available across multiple units, including Oncology and an Ortho Trauma unit, with opportunities to cross‑train across acute care settings.

What we’re looking for

• Registered Nurse (RN) licensure required
• Basic Cardiac Life Support, or BCLS Instructor must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
• Bachelors Degree, or Associate Degree REQUIRED
• Willingness to cross‑train; acute care experience preferred but not required

Schedule

Full‑time, mixed nights shift with rotating weekends.

Compensation
