Medical Stepdown is a unit that specializes in the care of acutely ill medical patients, focusing on respiratory failure and other medical problems.

• Patient population may include: Bipaps, High Flow Oxygen, Tracheostomies, Ventilated Tracheostomies, Respiratory Failure, Gastrointestinal Bleeds, Alcohol Withdrawal, Drug Overdose, Severe Sepsis, End of Life Care
• Requires excellent critical thinking and quick decision-making skills
• Close relationship with pulmonologists
• Provides numerous educational opportunities due to its diverse case mix
• 22-bed unit
• RN ratio: 3-4 patients, with tech support
• 24/7 leadership support
• Collaborates daily with Care Management, PT, OT, dieticians, and pharmacists

Overview

Utilizes the nursing process to provide patient care, maintaining professional accountability, evaluating care effectiveness, and coordinating with other departments. Upholds patient rights and confidentiality, aligning with our mission, values, and standards.

Qualifications

• Education: Graduate of a nursing program (Associate's Degree, Diploma, or BSN)
• Licensure: Current RN license in the state or compact licensure, meeting all state requirements
• Physical demands: Ability to lift 50 pounds, stand and walk for prolonged periods, and perform physical tasks like reaching, bending, kneeling, twisting, and squatting
• Certifications: BLS certification through the American Heart Association or successful completion within 30 days of hire
