Job summary

MercyOne Central Iowa is seeking an experienced registered nurse to provide comprehensive nursing care in a fast-paced hospital setting, with collaboration from physicians and care teams.

You will assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care, educate families, supervise support staff, and maintain accurate documentation. The role requires flexibility to work rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays; Iowa RN license and graduation from an accredited nursing program are required.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
  • Current Iowa RN license.

Responsibilities

  • Administer nursing care with assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation in coordination with physicians.
  • Educate patients and families on health issues and coping strategies.
  • Supervise nursing and support staff involved in patient care.
  • Use computer applications and communication tools to enter, retrieve and analyze patient information.
  • Maintain complete and accurate patient documentation.
  • Work independently within the Nurse Practice Act and Mercy Medical Center policies.
  • Operate and maintain clinical equipment (IV pumps, monitoring devices) and ensure patient safety.
  • Rotate shifts, weekends and holidays as scheduled.

Essential Job Functions


  • Administers nursing care to patients; includes assessment, planning, implementing and evaluating the patient's care plan in coordination with the physician.

  • Provides patient/family or caregiver education and counseling in recognition and solution of physical, emotional and environmental health problems.

  • Supervises health care members (i.e., patient care technicians, etc.) with patients.

  • Utilizes computer applications and communication technologies appropriate to the work setting to enter, retrieve and analyze information and to facilitate communication and education.

  • Maintains knowledge of documentation requirements needed for patients' record.

  • Works independently with limited direct supervision using the Nurse Practice Act, Mercy Medical Center polices, nursing standards and professional judgement.

  • Maintains knowledge of equipment set-up, maintenance, and use (i.e., IV pumps, monitoring equipment, and drainage devices). Utilizes safeguards such as IV pump drug library and monitor alarms whenever available to maximize patient safety.

  • Works rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays as scheduled.


EDUCATION

Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.


LICENSURE

Current license as a Registered Nurse from the State of Iowa required.
