Join to apply for the RN - Med Surg (PRN) Nights role at Ohio County Healthcare

Purpose of Job
Responsible for assessing and diagnosing nursing care needs for patients on admission. Establish nursing outcomes in collaboration with patients and their families, then prescribe, delegate, and supervise nursing care. Teach patients, evaluate their responses, and collaborate with physicians and other healthcare providers to modify the care plan as needed. Assist the inpatient manager with departmental budget planning, policy development, and quality improvement initiatives. The RN must demonstrate effective problem-solving, communication, decision-making, and critical thinking skills to ensure care delivery aligns with hospital policies, legal standards, and the hospital’s mission, vision, and values.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Assess and Diagnose Nursing Needs: Collect data using appropriate assessment techniques, validate problems with patients, families, and providers.
  2. Prescribe, Delegate, and Evaluate Care: Implement nursing interventions based on current practice, delegate appropriately, document responses, and communicate medical orders accurately.
  3. Patient Teaching: Identify learning needs, provide education, and document instruction and patient responses.
  4. Maintain Safety: Manage drugs responsibly, ensure equipment safety, respond to emergencies, and uphold infection control standards.
  5. Uphold Nursing Standards and Ethics: Follow policies, maintain licensure, respect patient rights, and adhere to safety protocols.
  6. Professional Development: Attend mandatory training, participate in meetings, and maintain competency.

Requirements include current RN licensure in Kentucky or a compact state, graduation from an accredited nursing program, BLS certification, and either ACLS certification within 6 months or equivalent. PALS certification is strongly recommended. Basic keyboarding skills are required.
