Job summary

Logan Health Medical Center is seeking a Med/Surg Float Pool RN to provide flexible, high-quality care across inpatient units. This PRN position offers premium pay with an 18% uplift plus shift differential, and requires cross-training across multiple units.

Qualified applicants hold a Montana RN license (or multi-state compact) with at least two years in Medical/Surgical settings and must obtain required certifications within 12 months. BSN preferred.

Qualifications

  • Current Montana RN license or multi-state compact license with authorization to practice nursing within the state of Montana.
  • Able to float across inpatient units based on skills, experience, and certifications.
  • Minimum of two years nursing experience in Medical/Surgical/related units.
  • Must cross-train and maintain competence in two or more units.
  • Certifications: BLS required; ACLS for PCU/ED; TNCC/ENPC/PALS within 12 months of hire.
  • BSN degree preferred; national certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Exhibits professionalism, civility, teamwork, and customer service in all interactions.
  • Performs comprehensive patient assessments on admission and at intervals as directed.
  • Administers medications, treatments, and IV therapy per physician orders and hospital policy.
  • Documents clinical findings and communicates critical changes using SBAR.
  • Maintains patient privacy, safety, and regulatory compliance.

Join Logan Health's Med/Surg Float Pool team and provide exceptional nursing care across multiple inpatient units! This flexible PRN position offers the opportunity to enhance your skills while delivering high-quality care in a dynamic and supportive environment. Float Pool RNs earn a premium pay rate, receiving an additional 18% on top of their base wage plus shift differential pay!

Qualifications:
  • Current Montana RN license or a multi-state compact license with authorization to practice nursing within the state of Montana; required.
  • Must be adaptable to various inpatient settings, which are determined based on skills, experience, and/or certifications.
  • Experience, competency, and certifications as required by units qualified to float.
  • Medical (Acute Care)/Surgical *Plus Float Pool (Medical, Surgical, PCU, Emergency Department, Behavioral Health, Skilled Nursing, specific Women's and Children's units, or SANE Team) RN requirements: Minimum of two (2) years nursing experience.
  • Must cross train and maintain competence in two (2) or more units in addition to maintaining competence to work in all the Medical/Surgical units.
  • Applicable certifications: BLS required. ACLS for PCU and ED required. TNCC, ENPC, and PALS for ED must be successfully obtained within twelve (12) months of hire.
  • BSN degree preferred.
  • National Certification in Medical, Surgical, or emergency care preferred.
Job Specific Duties:
  • Exhibits a commitment to professionalism, civility, teamwork, and customer service while undertaking all tasks and interactions with others.
  • Exhibits knowledge of policies and procedures as they relate to the RN’s specific job duties, patient care population being served, and safety.
  • Operates and maintains equipment to departmental standards and exhibits an understanding of the processes for removing a malfunctioning piece of equipment from service.
  • Maintains age-appropriate nursing standards of care and executes appropriate physician orders.
  • While executing patient care, exhibits knowledge of and maintains the patient’s right to diversity, privacy, and confidentiality.
  • Performs a comprehensive assessment of patient on admission and at regular intervals appropriate for the condition of the patient and/or as ordered by the physician/provider.
  • Performs administration of medications, treatments, physician/provider specified care, and intravenous therapy to patients, in compliance with hospital and nursing policies and procedures.
  • Performs reassessment of patient(s) to monitor status, identify changes in vital signs, lab work or status, implement interventions as ordered or defined, and to evaluate patient responses to treatment or therapy in compliance with hospital and nursing policies and procedures.
  • Communicates all appropriate and critical changes in the patient’s condition, status and findings to the appropriate physician/provider in a timely manner or as defined by policies and procedures and/or physician/provider orders.
  • Communication between members of the healthcare team is conducted using SBAR format.
  • Documents all clinical findings and required regulatory mandates in the chart in compliance with hospital and nursing policies and procedures or as defined by regulatory requirements.
  • Completes and demonstrates competency/currency in required yearly unit competencies and educational requirements.
  • Competencies may be required in assigned facilities annually.
  • Complies with and maintains regulatory compliance requirements as defined for the nursing care on the unit/facility and according to organizational standards.
  • The above essential functions are representative of major duties of positions in this job classification.

Shift and Schedule:

Shift: Variable (United States of America) Schedule: Must be willing to work day and night shifts, 12-hour shifts Logan Health operates 24 hours per day, seven days per week. Schedules are set to accommodate the requirements of the position and the needs of the organization and may be adjusted as needed.
