The Work Unit:

The HFEMSD oversees healthcare facilities and services in Colorado, including licensing, certification, compliance, and safety programs. It aims to protect patient safety and provide public information about healthcare facilities.

Summary of Position:

  • Assess care quality at healthcare facilities through observations, interviews, and record reviews.
  • Evaluate compliance with statutes, regulations, and policies.
  • Perform nursing observations, medication passes, and related tasks as a Registered Nurse.
  • Review incidents of deficiencies and assess facility responses.
  • Write deficiency statements identifying non-compliance issues.
  • Serve as a resource and educator on regulations for providers and the public.

Residency Requirement: Only current Colorado residents may apply.

Class Code & Classification: Health Professional III (C7C3XX)

Minimum Requirements:

Include all relevant work experience and education in your application. Experience must be within the last 10 years. Education can substitute experience; unofficial transcripts should be uploaded if used for substitution.

Experience Only:

Six (6) years of healthcare experience in a regulated facility or program, with a current, valid RN license from Colorado or an eNLC participating state.

Education & Experience:

Two (2) years of healthcare experience plus a bachelor's degree in Nursing, Public Health, Social Work, or a related field. A master's degree can substitute for experience. Must hold a current RN license.

Cover Letter: Submit a cover letter (max two pages, double-spaced) explaining how your education and experience prepare you for this role, including compliance examples and competencies.

Conditions of Employment:

  • Work in environments with contagious diseases (PPE provided)
  • Availability for emergencies and COOP activation
  • Proficiency with word processing and communication tech
  • Annual influenza vaccination or mask use; COVID-19 vaccination required
  • Fit testing for N-95 masks and PPE training
  • Ability to work evenings, nights, weekends, holidays
  • Ability to lift up to 45 lbs and stand/walk for extended periods
