Job Description:

General Description: An OU Health Registered Nurse (RN) I works under general supervision, providing high-quality care to patients in a hospital setting with health problems ranging from simple to complex. RN I is a nurse who is a novice or an advanced beginner progressing towards competence. They rely on rules rather than principles, gaining experience to formulate independent principles over time.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Align behaviors with OU Health values and maintain nursing practice standards.
  • Take responsibility for assigned patients.
  • Document responses to interventions and treatments, noting physician order changes.
  • Assist physicians during examinations and minor procedures.
  • Monitor and respond to physiological data of patients.
  • Administer medications as prescribed.
  • Manage intravenous infusions and blood products.
  • Deliver safe and competent patient care.
  • Address patient complaints promptly and collaboratively.
  • Inform patients and families about procedures and care plans.
  • Make appropriate referrals for patient care needs.
  • Seek mentorship, remain open to feedback, and maintain licensure to develop skills.
  • Develop a career plan and set personal and performance goals.
  • Foster an inclusive workforce valuing diversity.
  • Delegate tasks to support staff as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications

Education: Associate's or bachelor's degree in nursing.

Experience: 0-3 years of patient care experience as an RN.

License/Certification/Registration:

  • Current RN license issued by the Oklahoma State Board of Nursing or multistate eNLC license.
  • Basic Life Support (American Heart Association) certification upon hire.

  • Knowledge of basic nursing theory, practices, and techniques.
  • Ability to organize, plan, evaluate nursing services, and apply techniques.

Additional Level (RN II):

Works under general supervision, providing nursing care to a variety of patients, modeling standards, and upholding ethics. They are competent, efficient, team-focused, and capable of complex problem-solving.

Responsibilities include: similar to RN I, with added emphasis on mentoring, complex patient care, and leadership.

Minimum qualifications include a bachelor's degree, 3-5 years of experience, and preferred specialty certifications.

Additional Level (RN III):

Provides nursing care with a focus on quality outcomes, evidence-based practice, and innovation. Acts as a mentor and emerging leader, with responsibilities including complex procedures, mentorship, and staffing planning.

Minimum qualifications include a bachelor's degree, master's preferred, and over 5 years of experience, with specialty certifications preferred.
