Job summary

William Newton Hospital is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse to provide direct patient care in the maternity and newborn care setting. You will monitor fetal status, respond to changes in condition, and perform general nursing duties across departments with supervision.

You will participate in performance improvement activities and educate families as part of the care plan. You will coordinate care, support physicians, and help ensure high-quality outcomes in labor, delivery, postpartum,

Qualifications

• Active RN license in the state.
• 1+ year of Labor and Delivery/Newborn Nursery experience.
• Neonatal Resuscitation (NRP) certification.
• BCLS and fetal monitoring certification.
• ACLS certification.

Responsibilities

• Knowledge of medications and their correct administration based on age and condition.
• Assess neonate at delivery and perform neonatal resuscitation as needed.
• Head-to-toe assessment on all patients and reassessments per policy.
• Formulate an individualized plan of care and revise as indicated by response.
• Develop teaching plans and include family in teaching where appropriate.
• Demonstrates knowledge of electronic fetal monitoring, identifies FHR patterns and responds per standards.
• Communicates clearly with house supervisor, coworkers and physicians.
• Consults other departments for interdisciplinary patient care.
• Participates in patient education including self-care, infant care, feeding and bathing.
• Coordinates and supervises patient care as necessary.
• Assists physicians with procedures in labor, delivery, postpartum and newborn care.
• Maintains professionalism and handles stress effectively.
• Treats patients and families with respect and dignity.
• Interacts with patient/family to involve them in the care plan.
• Maintains good relations with department and other teams.
• Documents meeting current standards and policies.
• Addresses psychosocial needs of patients and families.

Job Summary:

Provides direct patient care in the maternity and newborn care setting. Communicates with physicians about changes in patient’s clinical condition including: fetal monitoring, results of diagnostic studies and symptomatology. Is able to respond quickly and accurately to changes in condition or response to treatment. Additionally, is able to perform general nursing duties in all departments with adequate supervision. Participates in performance improvement activities.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

• Knowledge of medications and their correct administration based on age of the patient and their clinical condition.
• Ability to assess neonate at delivery and perform neonatal resuscitation. NRP certification.
• Ability to perform a head-to-toe assessment on all patients and reassessments as per policy. This includes neonatal and the general patient population.
• Ability to formulate an individualized plan of care and revise plan as indicated by the patient’s response to treatment.
• Formulates a teaching plan based upon identified learning needs and evaluates effectiveness of learning (family in included in teaching as appropriate).
• Demonstrates knowledge of electronic fetal monitoring, identifies FHR patterns and treats appropriately based upon ACOG/NCC standards.
• Communicates appropriately and clearly to house supervisor, co-workers and physicians.
• Consults other departments as appropriate to provide for an interdisciplinary approach to the patient’s needs.
• Actively participates in patient education including self-care, infant care and feeding and bathing.
• Coordinates and supervises patient care as necessary.
• Demonstrates an ability to assist physicians with procedures in labor and delivery, postpartum and newborn nursery.

• Ensures compliance with policies and procedures regarding department operations, fire, safety and infection control.

Regulatory Requirements:

• Current state Registered Nurse Licensure
• One or more years of recent Labor and Delivery/Newborn Nursery experience
• Successful completion of Neonatal Resuscitation certification
• BCLS and fetal monitoring certification
• ACLS
