Job summary

Carilion Clinic in Roanoke, VA seeks a Registered Nurse for the Inpatient Surgical Unit. This full-time role covers Day/Evening shifts in a 20-bed telemetry PCU specializing in general and bariatric surgery, with ERAS patients and neuro/trauma cross-coverage.

The RN provides coordinated patient care, collaborates with the healthcare team, and utilizes critical thinking to improve outcomes. Training and development are emphasized with a patient-centric approach.

Qualifications

• Education: Graduate of school of professional nursing or approved program eligible to sit for VA licensure.
• Licensure/Certification: Currently licensed as Registered Nurse in Virginia or eligible for Virginia RN licensure.
• Life Support: AHA BLS-HCP required; ACLS/PALS/NRP may be required based on unit.
• Other: Computer skills for electronic medical record (EPIC).

Responsibilities

• Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates patient care to achieve optimum outcomes for patients of all ages.
• Completes age-specific admissions and ongoing assessments to develop a plan of care.
• Collaborates with health care team and patient/family to implement an interdisciplinary plan of care.
• Administers and documents treatments and medications using electronic systems.
• Educates patients and families; contributes to performance improvement activities.
• Acts as patient advocate and supports psychological/social/cultural needs.
• Supports practice development and orientation of new staff.
