About the unit

We are an RN-based Vascular Access Team providing 24-hour services across inpatient and outpatient hospital areas. Responsibilities include peripheral IV, midline, and PICC (peripherally inserted central catheter) insertions, recommending the most appropriate access based on patient assessment. Additional duties include dressing changes, line troubleshooting, surveillance, and staff education on the RIGHT LINE for the RIGHT PATIENT at the RIGHT TIME.

Scope of work

Nurses utilize the nursing process within the ANA scope of practice to provide patient-family centered care, under the guidance of the Nurse Leader and according to Corewell Health policies. Responsibilities include assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation, and discharge planning, incorporating patient and family input. Nurses must perform technical procedures competently, document accurately and timely, and develop educational strategies for patients and families, documenting learning appropriately.

Qualifications

  • Associates in Nursing required; Bachelors in Nursing required within 5 years.
  • Minimum of 2 years of related acute care experience for external candidates; must complete a competency assessment. Internal candidates with less than 2 years need approval and remain a unit-based PRN until 2 years of experience.
  • MI Registered Nurse (RN) license required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from AHA or ARC required upon hire.
  • Specialty certification is highly recommended within 2 years.
