Position: PRN Day shift Registered Nurse in the ICU at Oro Valley Hospital

What you will do:

The ICU patient population includes critically ill adults who may require life support. These patients can be medical or cardiovascular cases requiring specialized RN care. You will plan, direct, participate in, and evaluate patient care in collaboration with other disciplines to provide optimal care in the ICU. The RN provides patient-centered care through assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation, ensuring high-quality care based on clinical protocols and physician orders. Collaboration with healthcare professionals and maintaining a compassionate environment for patients and families are essential.

Essential Functions:

  • Coordinate and deliver high-quality, patient-centered care following organizational policies and the nursing process.
  • Conduct thorough patient assessments, document findings accurately, and report changes in condition promptly.
  • Provide age-appropriate care and education, utilizing knowledge of human development.
  • Administer prescribed medications, monitor for side effects, and document accordingly.
  • Assist physicians during procedures within your scope of competency.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized care plans with the healthcare team.
  • Respond to medical emergencies and participate in life-saving interventions such as CPR and code team activities.
  • Advocate for patient rights and needs, ensuring respectful care planning and delivery.
  • Educate patients and families about medical conditions, treatment plans, and post-discharge care.
  • Follow infection control protocols to prevent healthcare-associated infections.
  • Operate and monitor medical equipment like IV pumps and ventilators safely.
  • Maintain a safe environment adhering to National Patient Safety Goals.
  • Participate in audits and compliance checks to meet standards and regulations.
  • Make responsible decisions in care planning, delegation, and execution based on patient needs.
  • Document patient care and education thoroughly and promptly.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development to stay current with nursing standards and regulations.
  • Contribute to performance improvement initiatives to enhance patient outcomes.

Critical Care RN-specific duties include:

  • Administer medications and treatments, including IV therapies.
  • Manage complex medical equipment such as ventilators and monitors.
  • Perform procedures like inserting central lines, managing tracheostomies, and providing advanced cardiac life support.

Other duties include performing assigned tasks and adhering to all policies and standards.

Qualifications:

  • 1-2 years of experience in an acute care setting required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong understanding of nursing processes and clinical practices.
  • Ability to assess patients thoroughly and communicate findings effectively.
  • Proficiency in medication administration and side effect monitoring.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of safety standards, infection control, and quality initiatives.

Licenses and Certifications:

  • RN - Registered Nurse with State Licensure or Compact License.
  • BCLS - Basic Life Support required.
  • ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support preferred.
