Position Summary: Administers patient care in an area in a hospital or inpatient/observation setting where an acute care patient receives active treatment for an injury, episode of illness, medical condition, or post-intervention assessment.
Responsibilities
Essential Functions:
- Assesses patient needs and develops/revises an individualized care plan based on patient responses.
- Evaluates the patient’s progress toward expected outcomes.
- Respects diversity by building respectful relationships with all team members and customers.
- Functions as a patient and family advocate.
- Provides age-appropriate care based on the patient's unit/department.
- Serves as a preceptor, charge nurse, educator, and/or nurse clinician.
- Communicates and collaborates with medical staff and interdisciplinary team for effective planning and management.
- Acts as a role model and supports hospital and nursing department goals.
- Demonstrates knowledge of growth and development principles, assesses patient data, and interprets information to meet age-specific needs.
- Coordinates care and delegates tasks appropriately to team members.
- Documents patient care accurately, including assessments, education, medications, treatments, and safety measures.
- Demonstrates competency in nursing skills and equipment use.
- Prioritizes patient care according to Evidence-Based Practice Standards.
- Practices effective problem-solving and resolution.
- Delegates tasks based on patient needs and team member capabilities.
- Communicates patient condition and unit concerns effectively to team members.
- Provides compassionate, therapeutic environment for patients and families.
- Maintains awareness of legal issues and patient rights.
- Supports new team members and students through collaboration with education and leadership teams.
- Maintains punctual attendance in accordance with policies and standards.
- Ensures compliance with all organizational policies and procedures.
Other Related Functions:
- Contributes to team knowledge, skill development, and quality improvement.
- Participates or leads committees on nursing practice and performance improvement.
- Engages in peer review, mentoring, and coaching activities.
- Uses supplies efficiently and maintains a clean, safe work environment.
- Attends staff development, meetings, and committees.
- Partners with leadership to identify professional development needs.
- Responsible for personal professional growth and continuing education.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education/Training:
- Graduate of an approved nursing school.
- Meets all competency requirements for Orlando Health and the specific unit/department.
Licensure/Certification:
- Current State of AL RN license or valid eNLC multistate RN license.
- Current BLS/Healthcare Provider certification.
- ACLS, NRP, PALS, TNCC may be required for certain areas.
Experience:
- Minimum of 1 year of experience required unless approved by AVP level or above.
