Job Overview

The Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at St. Vincent Hospital is a busy 20-bed medical/surgical unit that handles a variety of cases including pulmonary, GI, surgical, GU, postpartum, pregnancy (>20 weeks gestation), psychiatric, and renal conditions. The unit utilizes CRRT and Mercy Virtual Telemedicine services.

Position Details

The registered nurse assesses human responses, plans, implements, and evaluates nursing care for individuals or families. The RN is responsible for ensuring high-quality care and is accountable for all actions as a licensed nurse.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Provide leadership and act as a team player, contributing to team success through mentorship and role modeling.
  • Delegate tasks appropriately based on patient needs and staff skill levels.
  • Maintain a safe environment, considering patient condition and intervention complexity.
  • Offer feedback to peers and share knowledge to promote professional growth.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary teams to evaluate and improve clinical care.
  • Support patient safety initiatives and quality improvement projects.
  • Supervise and evaluate delegated tasks within the scope of practice.
  • Use the nursing process to assess, plan, and evaluate patient care, involving patients and families.
  • Respond to changes in patient condition promptly and document appropriately.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development and participate in peer review and patient satisfaction initiatives.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Act 34 Criminal Background Clearance
  • Act 33 Child Abuse Clearance
  • Act 73 FBI Fingerprinting Clearance
  • Current PA RN licensure or multi-state licensure via eNLC
  • CPR certification
Preferred Qualifications
  • Specialty certification in area of practice
