The RN’s practice is guided by the ANA Standard for Professional Nurse and Code of Ethics. The RN records patients’ medical history and symptoms, helps perform diagnostic tests and analyze results, operates medical equipment, administers treatment and medications, and assists with patient follow‑up and rehabilitation. The RN establishes or contributes to care plans that may include medication administration, IV line management, therapies, observation, and collaboration with physicians and other clinicians. The RN educates patients and families on illness management, post‑treatment care, diet, exercise, and medication self‑administration. The RN directs LPNs and nursing aides, delegates tasks appropriately, supports clinical knowledge advancement, precepts new hire staff and students, and continually enhances patient experience, outcomes, and a healthy work environment. Nursing practice is theory‑based, evidence‑based, and utilizes a Shared Governance model for decision‑making.
