Job summary

Carilion Clinic in Roanoke, VA is seeking an RN I for the Surgical ICU. The unit provides 12-bed adult care for complex surgical patients and serves as an alternate unit for trauma and neurosurgery, with close collaboration among intensivists and multidisciplinary teams.

The RN delivers individualized patient care, conducts assessments, and participates in performance improvement. Strong EMR skills and VA licensure are required; BLS is mandatory with ACLS/PALS/NRP as needed.

Qualifications

• Graduate of a State Board of Nursing approved program required.
• Current Registered Nurse license in the Commonwealth of Virginia or eligibility to obtain licensure required.
• Life Support: AHA BLS-HCP required. ACLS, PALS, or NRP may be required based on assigned work area.

How Youll Help Transform Healthcare:

12 bed adult ICU specializes in the care of complex surgical patients, both planned and emergent. They are also the alternate unit for trauma, neurosurgery, and hospitalist patients. Nursing works closely with medical, surgical, and trauma intensivists to care for a varied patient population.

The RN

• Provides individualized patient care and coordinates care delivery for patients of all ages.
• Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates patient care to achieve optimal outcomes.
• Completes and documents age-specific assessments to support development of care plans.
• Collaborates with patients, families, and interdisciplinary teams to develop and adjust care plans.
• Administers treatments and medications accurately and documents care in electronic medical records.
• Identifies and addresses patient and family education needs.
• Participates in performance improvement and quality initiatives.
• Advocates for patients and supports their rights and psychosocial needs.
• Applies knowledge of growth and development to provide age-appropriate care.
• Demonstrates clinical expertise in dynamic and changing care environments.
• Implements strategies to improve patient outcomes and resource utilization.
• Serves as a role model and supports development of peers and team members.
• Manages resources, prioritizes tasks, and adapts to changing patient care needs.

• Supports education activities within the department.

What We Require:

Education: Graduate of a State Board of Nursing approved program required.

Experience: None.

Licensure, Certification, and/or Registration: Current Registered Nurse license in the Commonwealth of Virginia required or eligibility to obtain licensure required.

Life Support: AHA BLS-HCP required. Additional certifications such as ACLS, PALS, or NRP may be required based on assigned work area.

Other Minimum Qualifications: Keyboarding skills and computer literacy required, including use of electronic medical records. For Behavioral Health roles, must demonstrate ability to safely manage disruptive or potentially violent patients.

Compensation Range:

$33.52 - $50.28

Employee pay is based on a variety of factors, including qualifications, credentials, education, and prior work experience. The compensation range does not include benefits or pension plan.
