Job summary

Carilion Clinic in Roanoke, VA seeks a Registered Nurse I for the Heart Failure Clinic - FLEX. This variable/flex position supports day shifts with flexible hours in a fast-paced specialty setting.

You will provide direct patient care, coordinate care plans, document in EMR, educate patients and families, and participate in performance improvement activities. Virginia RN license and BLS are required; ACLS/PALS may be required by area.

Qualifications

• Graduate of a State Board of Nursing approved program required.
• Virginia RN license or eligibility to obtain licensure required.
• AHA BLS-HCP required; ACLS/PALS/NRP may be required by area.

Responsibilities

• Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care for all ages in Heart Failure Clinic.
• Document admission and ongoing assessments to develop a care plan.
• Collaborate with health team and family to implement interdisciplinary care.
• Administer and document treatments and medications per EMR.
• Educate patients and families and contribute to quality improvement.

As part of the health care team, RNs assume primary accountability for nursing coordination and provision of individualized care for patients of all ages. The registered nurse also utilizes delegation and critical thinking skills to provide quality service through a team oriented, collaborative approach to patient care.

This position is FLEX, work day shift hours

The RN's duties include, but are not limited to the following:

• Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates patient care in order to achieve optimum patient outcomes for patients of all ages as appropriate to service area.
• Age specific admission and ongoing assessments are completed, documented and used to develop a plan of care.
• Collaborates with members of the health care team/patient/family to develop, implement, and evaluate an age-specific interdisciplinary plan of care. Revises plan according to changes in patient status.
• Treatments and medications for patients of all ages are accurately administered and documented utilizing automated computer systems, including electronic medical records.
• Patient/family (caregiver) educational needs are identified in a timely manner, incorporated into the plan of care, implemented and documented appropriately.
• Contributes to Carilion Clinics performance improvement activities.
• Consistently demonstrates the role of patient advocate, protector of patients rights, and provider of psychological/social/cultural support.
• Applies knowledge of growth and development to appropriately care for patients served.
• Determines and performs within clinical, leadership, and/or education pathways to support (direct/indirect) evidenced based, quality patient care service and performance improvement.
• Exhibits clinical expertise in rapidly changing circumstances.
• Plans strategies to reduce length of stay, turnaround time, resource consumption and improve patient outcomes.
• Functions as role model for clinical practice to coworker, students, and physicians.
• Manages resources, establishes priorities, and modifies environment to meet patient care needs.
• Completes manager/director predetermined projects within specified time frame and according to pre-established guidelines.
• Uses problem-solving methods to facilitate resolution to patient and personnel situations that present in the work area.
• Takes an active role in the orientation of new employees.
• Provides feedback to staff using appropriate communication and documentation.
• Provides input into practice, environment, and work issues by participating on unit, hospital, and/or system activities which facilitates staff participation/input in decision making.
• Assists with providing education activities for unit/department.

What We Require:

Education: Graduate of a State Board of Nursing approved program required.

Experience: None.

Licensure, Certification, and/or Registration: Current Registered Nurse license in the Commonwealth of Virginia required or eligibility to obtain licensure required.

Life Support: AHA BLS-HCP required. Additional certifications such as ACLS, PALS, or NRP may be required based on assigned work area.

Other Minimum Qualifications: Keyboarding skills and computer literacy required, including use of electronic medical records. For Behavioral Health roles, must demonstrate ability to safely manage disruptive or potentially violent patients.

Compensation Range:

$27.70 - $41.55

Employee pay is based on a variety of factors, including qualifications, credentials, education, and prior work experience. The compensation range does not include benefits or pension plan.
