Carilion Clinic is seeking a compassionate RN for its inpatient Palliative Care unit in Roanoke, VA. The role focuses on symptom relief and comprehensive, patient-centered care for adults with serious illness.

You will coordinate plans, document care in EPIC, and educate patients and families while collaborating with a multidisciplinary team. The ideal candidate holds Virginia RN licensure or eligibility, with BLS certification and potential unit-specific ACLS/PALS/NRP requirements.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing or approved nursing program.
• Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in Virginia or eligible to obtain Virginia RN licensure.
• Computer skills for EPIC EMR usage.
• AHA BLS-HCP required; ACLS/PALS/NRP may be required depending on unit.

Responsibilities

• Assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care for all ages in the unit.
• Collaborate with the health care team to create an age-specific plan of care.
• Document treatments and medications accurately in the EMR.
• Educate patients and families; provide psychosocial and cultural support.
• Contribute to performance improvement activities and unit education.

Comprised of Registered Nurses and Nursing Assistants, our nursing team is specially trained at providing care for people living with serious illness. Palliative Care focuses on relief of symptoms and stressors of a serious illness. Our focus is patient centered, and with the Palliative Care team, we provide interprofessional assessment and comprehensive management of patients’ and families’ physical, psychological, social, spiritual, and bereavement needs. As a registered nurse (RN), you are expected to consistently deliver the best in care and customer service and demonstrate respect, dignity, kindness and empathy in each encounter with our patients, their families, visitors, and with each other. As part of the health care team, RNs assume primary accountability for nursing coordination and provision of individualized care for patients of all ages. The registered nurse also utilizes delegation and critical thinking skills to provide quality service through a team oriented, collaborative approach to patient care.The RN* Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates patient care in order to achieve optimum patient outcomes for patients of all ages as appropriate to service area.* Age specific admission and ongoing assessments are completed, documented and used to develop a plan of care.* Collaborates with members of the health care team/patient/family to develop, implement, and evaluate an age-specific interdisciplinary plan of care.
