Job summary

Carilion Clinic seeks a Registered Nurse to join the 20-bed telemetry PCU, focusing on general and bariatric surgery patients. You will assess, plan, implement and document care for patients across the lifespan.

This role requires Virginia RN licensure, BLS, and ability to work day/evening shifts in Roanoke. You will collaborate with families and the healthcare team, participate in quality initiatives, and support patient education.

Qualifications

• Graduate of a State Board of Nursing approved program.
• Current Registered Nurse license in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
• AHA BLS-HCP certification required; ACLS/PALS/NRP may be required by area.

Responsibilities

• Provides individualized patient care and coordinates care for all ages.
• Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates patient care to optimize outcomes.
• Documents age-specific assessments and care plans in EMR.
• Collaborates with families and interdisciplinary teams to adjust care plans.

How You'll Help Transform Healthcare:

20 bed telemetry PCU specializes in the care and management of all general and bariatric surgery patients. This unit houses the majority of Enhanced Recovery (ERAS) patients. They also serves as the alternate unit for neuro/trauma surgery patients, hospitalist/medicine patients, and urology/other surgery patients.

The RN

• Provides individualized patient care and coordinates care delivery for patients of all ages.
• Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates patient care to achieve optimal outcomes.
• Completes and documents age-specific assessments to support development of care plans.
• Collaborates with patients, families, and interdisciplinary teams to develop and adjust care plans.
• Administers treatments and medications accurately and documents care in electronic medical records.
• Identifies and addresses patient and family education needs.
• Participates in performance improvement and quality initiatives.
• Advocates for patients and supports their rights and psychosocial needs.
• Applies knowledge of growth and development to provide age-appropriate care.
• Demonstrates clinical expertise in dynamic and changing care environments.
• Implements strategies to improve patient outcomes and resource utilization.
• Serves as a role model and supports development of peers and team members.
• Manages resources, prioritizes tasks, and adapts to changing patient care needs.
• Supports orientation and training of new employees.
• Uses problem-solving skills to address patient care and operational challenges.
• Provides feedback and participates in shared decision-making activities.
• Supports education activities within the department.
• Maintains confidentiality and complies with regulatory and organizational standards.

What We Require:

• Education: Graduate of a State Board of Nursing approved program required.
• Experience: None.
• Licensure, Certification, and/or Registration: Current Registered Nurse license in the Commonwealth of Virginia required or eligibility to obtain licensure required.
• Life Support: AHA BLS-HCP required. Additional certifications such as ACLS, PALS, or NRP may be required based on assigned work area.
• Other Minimum Qualifications: Keyboarding skills and computer literacy required, including use of electronic medical records. For Behavioral Health roles, must demonstrate ability to safely manage disruptive or potentially violent patients.

Compensation Range:

$33.52 - $50.28 Employee pay is based on a variety of factors, including qualifications, credentials, education, and prior work experience. The compensation range does not include benefits or pension plan.
