Elmhurst Hospital is seeking an RN House Operations Administrator (HOA) for the Central Resource Team. This per-diem night shift role (7pm–7am) leads hospital-wide clinical operations, patient flow, staffing, and safety in the absence of senior leadership.

The HOA directs real-time decisions, coordinates interdepartmental activity, and ensures continuous, high‑quality patient care while maintaining regulatory compliance and escalation pathways.

Qualifications

• Three years minimum of progressive nursing experience, with at least two years in a formal or informal leadership role (e.g., Charge Nurse, Team Lead, Supervisor).
• One year in a critical care or high-acuity setting is highly preferred.
• RN license in Illinois (IDFPR) required.
• BLS CPR/AED required; ACLS required or obtained within 90 days of hire.

The HOA provides hospital‑wide oversight of clinical operations, patient flow, staffing, safety, and emergency response.Acting in the interest of the organization, the HOA exercises independent judgment and has the authority to interpret and enforce policies, provides direction to team members, direct clinical and operational activity, resolve complex issues, allocate resources, and make real-time decisions necessary to ensure continuity of safe, high‑quality patient care across all units. The role functions as the central decision‑maker for real‑time operations, support frontline staff, coordinating interdepartmental activity, and maintaining situational awareness of capacity, acuity, and resource needs.When circumstances require additional review, investigation, formal follow-up, or action related to a team member's performance, conduct, or employment status, the HOA partners with the appropriate supervisor, department leader, Human Resources, and/or chain of command to ensure matters are addressed through the proper process. The HOA escalates clinical, operational, safety, staffing, or employee-related concerns to the appropriate leadership chain as needed based on urgency, risk, scope, or organizational policy.What you will do:Supervision and Leadership• Exercises independent judgment and serves as the house-wide supervisory clinical and operational authority during assigned shifts when senior leadership is not on site.• Provides direction, supervision, coaching, and mentoring to Charge Nurses, Resource Team staff, and other clinical and operational team members as needed to support safe and effective hospital operations.• Directs real-time shift-based clinical and operational activity, including patient flow, staffing deployment, resource allocation, issue resolution, and response to emergent or high-risk situations.• Manages shift-based performance in real time, provides coaching and feedback as appropriate, and provides performance feedback upon request or when appropriate to support leader awareness, team member development, and continuity of expectations.• Partners with the appropriate supervisor, department leader, Human Resources, and/or chain of command when situations require additional review, investigation, formal follow-up, or performance management action.• Keeps hospital leadership and the appropriate chain of command informed of significant clinical, operational, staffing, safety, patient experience, or employee-related situations requiring escalation, follow-up, or leadership awareness.Patient Flow & Throughput Management• Supports real-time patient placement, transfers, and discharges to optimize hospital capacity and reduce delays.• Collaborates with the central command center (Hub)/CMC, Emergency Department, and Admitting to ensure efficient patient throughput.• Serves as the final arbiter for complex patient placement decisions based on clinical acuity and resource availability.Hospital-Wide Clinical Oversight• Conducts regular rounds across all clinical areas to monitor patient acuity, assess operational needs, and ensure adherence to standards of care.• Serves as the primary clinical and administrative authority in the absence of senior leadership, making critical decisions to maintain safe operations in partnership with acute care leadership• Functions as an expert clinical resource for all staff, providing guidance on complex patient care issues and intervening in high-risk situations.Staffing and Resource Allocation• Assesses and adjusts staffing levels across all units in real time based on census, acuity, and skill mix.• Directs the allocation of resource team, float pool, and agency personnel to address immediate staffing needs.• Monitors staff assignments to ensure they are appropriate for patient needs and staff competencies.Emergency Response and Safety• Leads the hospital’s response to clinical emergencies, including RRTs, Code Blue, and other critical events.• Conducts safety rounds to identify and mitigate risks, ensuring a safe environment for patients and staff.• Ensures compliance with all regulatory standards (e.g., The Joint Commission, IDPH) and hospital policies.What you will need:Bachelors Degree Nursing RequiredMasters Degree Nursing Preferred OrMasters Degree Health Administration Preferred3 Years Minimum of three years of progressive nursing experience, with at least two years in a formal or informal leadership role (e.g., Charge Nurse, Team Lead, Supervisor).1 Year Experience in a critical care or high-acuity setting is highly preferred.Demonstrated leadership ability with experience in direct supervision and staff development.Strong critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective conflict resolution and team collaboration.Registered Nurse (RN) - Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR) Required AndBLS – Basic Life Support (CPR and AED) - American Heart Association (AHA) Required AndAdvanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) - American Heart Association (AHA) or obtained within 90 days of hire Required
