Job summary

Jackson County Memorial Hospital Authority is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse to provide direct patient care across pediatric to geriatric populations in the surgical setting. The RN will collaborate with surgeons and anesthesiologists, assist with equipment, and help maintain OR readiness and sterile technique.

Ideal candidates will have an Oklahoma RN license, current BLS/ACLS, and at least one year of OR experience, with a commitment to patient safety and performance improvement

Qualifications

• Must possess and maintain current RN licensure to practice in Oklahoma.
• Current BLS certification required; obtained during orientation if not current.
• Current ACLS certification required or obtained within first year of employment.
• Minimum of 1 year operating room experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care to pediatric through geriatric patients in the surgical environment.

• Assist with maintaining surgical equipment and inventory; ensure OR readiness.

Job Summary

Provides direct patient care to pediatric through geriatric patient populations. Addresses the psychosocial, physical and general aspects of care related to the surgical environment. Communicates with surgeon and anesthesiologist continuously and as needed about patient condition. Assists with the maintenance of surgical equipment and inventory. Participates in performance improvement activities. Assesses operating room for equipment functioning and readiness, obtains supplies for individual cases and assures all appropriate needs of surgical operating team are met. Monitors, positions and assists patient during procedure.

Demonstrates Competency in the Following Areas

• Knowledge of medications and their correct administration based on age of the patient and their clinical condition.
• Performs patient care responsibilities considering needs specific to the standard of care for patient’s age.
• Carries out physician orders in a timely manner.
• Ability to revise plan of care as indicated by the patient’s response to treatment and evaluate overall plan for effectiveness.
• Demonstrates ability to perform treatments and provide services to level of licensure.
• Communicates appropriately and clearly to Nurse Manager, co-workers, and physicians.
• Consults other departments, as appropriate, to provide for an interdisciplinary approach to the patient’s needs.
• Provides care appropriate to condition and age of the patient, including: pediatric, geriatric and general population.
• Demonstrates an ability to be flexible, organized and function under stressful situations.
• Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity; ensures patient confidentiality.
• Interacts professionally with patient/family and involves patient/family in the formation of the plan of care.
• Maintains a good working relationship both within the department and with other departments.

• Manages and operates equipment safely and correctly.
• Coordinates and supervises patient care as necessary.
• Performs other duties as assigned within the RN scope of practice.
• Preps and drapes patients correctly for all procedures.
• Carries out medical and surgical asepsis during all procedures.
• Demonstrates competence in preparing and cleaning of OR suites before and between cases and after terminal case cleaning.
• Accurately records, handles and labels specimens; demonstrates care of specimens.
• Effectively communicates with the physician in accounting for all sponges, needles and instruments during and after the procedure and documents in the appropriate areas.
• Communicates lab/radiology reports to the surgeon during the procedure.
• Gives thorough report of patient’s intraoperative condition to PACU nurse.
• Demonstrates thorough knowledge of instrument processing, sterilization and biological monitoring. Actively participates in instrument processing as schedule allows.

• Completes annual educational requirements.
• Maintains regulatory requirements.
• Assists with materials management and item documentation/auditing.
• Attends annual in-services and participates in departmental communication.
• Actively participates in performance improvement.

Regulatory Requirements

• Must possess and maintain current Registered Nurse licensure to practice in Oklahoma.
• Current BLS certification required; must be obtained during initial orientation if not current upon hire.
• Current ALS required or must be obtained during the first year of employment if not current upon hire.
• Minimum of one-year work experience in the operating room preferred.
• Previous work history that demonstrates steady attendance and punctuality is required.

Language Skills

• Ability to read and communicate effectively in English.
• Additional languages preferred.
