Job summary

Harmon Memorial is seeking a registered nurse to provide direct patient care in the operating room for pediatric through geriatric patients. You will support the surgical team, monitor patient status, and ensure aseptic technique.

The role requires Oklahoma RN licensure, BLS/ALS, and OR experience; you will assist with instrument processing, equipment readiness, and participate in performance improvement.

Qualifications

• Must possess and maintain active RN licensure to practice in Oklahoma.
• BLS certification required; must be obtained during orientation if not current.
• ALS certification required or within first year of employment if not current.
• Minimum of one year OR experience preferred.
• Demonstrates punctuality and reliable attendance.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care across pediatric to geriatric populations in the OR setting.

Job Summary

Provides direct patient care to pediatric through geriatric patient populations. Addresses the psychosocial, physical and general aspects of care related to the surgical environment. Communicates with surgeon and anesthesiologist continuously and as needed about patient condition. Assists with the maintenance of surgical equipment and inventory. Participates in performance improvement activities. Assesses operating room for equipment functioning and readiness, obtains supplies for individual cases and assures all appropriate needs of surgical operating team are met. Monitors, positions and assists patient during procedure.

• Carries out medical and surgical asepsis during all procedures.


• Demonstrates competence in preparing and cleaning of OR suites before and between cases and after terminal case cleaning.


• Accurately records, handles and labels specimens; demonstrates care of specimens.


• Effectively communicates with the physician in accounting for all sponges, needles and instruments during and after the procedure and documents in the appropriate areas.


• Communicates lab/radiology reports to the surgeon during the procedure.


• Gives thorough report of patient’s intraoperative condition to PACU nurse.


• Demonstrates thorough knowledge of instrument processing, sterilization and biological monitoring. Actively participates in instrument processing as schedule allows.

• Completes annual educational requirements.


• Maintains regulatory requirements.


• Assists with materials management and item documentation/auditing.


• Attends annual in-services and participates in departmental communication.

Regulatory Requirements

• Must possess and maintain current Registered Nurse licensure to practice in Oklahoma.


• Current BLS certification required; must be obtained during initial orientation if not current upon hire.


• Current ALS required or must be obtained during the first year of employment if not current upon hire.


• Minimum of one-year work experience in the operating room preferred.


• Previous work history that demonstrates steady attendance and punctuality is required.

Language Skills

• Ability to read and communicate effectively in English.
