Job summary

Community Health Systems seeks a part-time Registered Nurse for the GI Lab Endoscopy at Oro Valley Hospital in Tucson. You will assist physicians, monitor patients during procedures, and provide thorough post-procedure care and education.

The role emphasizes safety, accuracy, and teamwork in a fast-paced endoscopy setting. Requirements include RN licensure and BLS; ACLS is preferred, with 0–2 years of acute care experience and strong communication skills.

Qualifications

• 0-2 years of experience in a clinical nursing role or student rotations in acute care.
• RN licensure in state or compact licensure required.
• BLS required; ACLS preferred.
• Proficient in patient assessments, medication administration, and documentation.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills; adherence to safety and infection control.

Responsibilities

• Provide patient-centered care before, during, and after endoscopy.
• Assist physicians during GI lab/endoscopy procedures such as colonoscopy.
• Monitor vitals, administer medications, and document in patient records.
• Prepare endoscopy room, ensure sterility and equipment readiness.
• Support PreOp and Recovery PACU as needed and respond to emergencies.
• Educate patients and families about procedures and post-care instructions.

Part Time schedule in GI Lab Endoscopy at Oro Valley Hospital in Tucson
What you'll do:
At Oro Valley Hospital you’ll play a vital role in doing what you do best - providing quality care to our patients before, during, and after surgery.
Be a super hero in the GI Lab helping to prevent and defeat cancer and save lives!
Assist in the nursing care of the endoscopic patient by performing duties and related activities, assisting the physician for endoscopy procedures like colonoscopy.
Charts during routine and advanced endoscopy procedures, covers PreOp and Recovery PACU areas of Endoscopy / GI Lab.
Prior Endoscopy or other procedural experience highly preferred.

• Promotes patient safety by adhering to National Patient Safety Goals and maintaining a clean, safe environment for patients and staff.
• Participates in audits, chart reviews, and compliance checks to ensure adherence to standards of practice and regulatory requirements.
• Demonstrates responsible decision‑making in planning, delegating, and providing care based on patient needs and organizational policies.
• Documents patient care and education thoroughly and promptly in the medical record.
• Engages in professional development to maintain clinical competency and understanding of current nursing standards and regulations.
• Participates in performance improvement initiatives, including data collection and process development, to enhance patient outcomes and care delivery.
• Assesses patient needs, reviews medical history, explains procedures, obtains consent, and prepares the patient for procedure.
• Monitors patient vitals, administers medications, and assists the physician during procedure.
• Provides post‑procedure care, monitors recovery, and educates patients about aftercare instructions.
• Ensures the endoscopy room is properly prepared, instruments are sterilized, and equipment is functioning correctly.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
• Maintains regular and reliable attendance.
• Complies with all policies and standards.

• 0-2 years of experience in a clinical nursing role or student clinical rotations in an acute care setting required

• Strong knowledge of the nursing process and clinical nursing practices.
• Ability to perform thorough patient assessments and communicate findings effectively.
• Proficient in administering medications and monitoring for side effects.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with interdisciplinary teams.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in documenting patient care.
• Knowledge of safety standards, infection control, and quality improvement initiatives.

• RN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure required
• BCLS - Basic Life Support required
• ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support required
• Refer to facility or unit-specific guidelines for additional requirements.
