Lower Umpqua Hospital District is seeking a full-time Registered Nurse to join our nursing department.

Job Summary

A Registered Nurse provides care through the nursing process, including assessment, delivery of care, and information to patients admitted at Lower Umpqua Hospital. The RN demonstrates compassion, respect, and a caring attitude while working within the scope of a registered nurse to provide care to patients and assistance to their families and visitors. The RN collaborates with all other healthcare team members toward the best outcomes for the patient and the organization. All job duties are performed in a manner that demonstrates Lower Umpqua Hospital’s "Partners in Care" philosophy.

Essential Duties
  • Receive adequate report from off‑going nurse.
  • Utilize the nursing process to deliver holistic patient‑focused care: assessment, diagnosis, outcomes/planning, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Make pertinent observations of the patient and respond in a timely manner to rapid changes in patient condition; contact physician with changes in patient status.
  • Provide primary care of patients with CNA assistance, as necessary.
  • Assist patients with mobilization, including turning, positioning, transferring, and ambulation.
  • Plan workload to provide organized care for a group of patients.
  • Delegate to and supervise other members of the nursing team in providing patient care.
  • Coordinate the activities of other departments in the implementation of patient care.
  • Use teaching plans and referrals to other health team members to meet patient and family learning needs.
  • Seek opportunities to learn and perform unfamiliar procedures, using appropriate resources.
  • Maintain ability to carry out technical procedures independently, effectively, and safely.
  • Effectively organize and complete patient care assignments within allotted time.
  • Manage interruptions or routine work effectively.
  • Initiate and/or participate in patient care conferences, unit meetings, in‑services, and nursing process groups on an ongoing basis.
  • Participate in evaluating standards of care, identify unsafe patient care practices, and take responsibility for intervention.
  • Review and revise nursing policies, procedures, and equipment as needed for patient care.
  • Maintain competency in nursing skills utilized on the patient care unit.
  • Make rounds on all patients.
  • Dispense medications following correct procedures and perform treatments.
  • Maintain accurate and concise documentation.
  • Review and update care plans.
  • Assist in emergency procedures.
  • Assist with patient care and answer lights as needed.
  • Assist in supporting volunteers.
  • Interpret and respond to telemetry.
  • Assist as needed in the ER and ICU.
  • Perform clerical duties such as mechanical copying, filing, answering phones, etc.
  • Clean and disinfect surfaces/equipment.
  • Provide nurse relief for lunches and breaks.
  • Assist with chart review.
  • Engage in continuing education.
Qualification Requirements
  • Education and License:
    • Graduated from an approved Registered Nursing program.
    • Current Registered Nurse licensure in the State of Oregon.
  • Certifications:
    • Basic Life Support (BLS).
  • Additional Qualifications:
    • Function at the RN level in acute intermediate, long‑term, and ambulatory care facility.
    • Physical performance skills: ambulate safely, work in limited lighted areas on night shifts, read small letters and digits accurately.
    • Hearing: assess patient status and monitor equipment alarms and parameters.
    • Speech: ask pertinent questions, teach patient and family, communicate professionally, and give adequate nursing reports.
    • Mental: comprehend job description, maintain professional behavior, problem‑solve effectively, and foster a team approach.
Work Environment

Works indoors in an air‑conditioned environment; administers potentially harmful medications; frequent contact with potentially contaminated body fluids.

Physical Demands

Frequent use of computer and phone; stand, sit, stoop, twist, kneel, reach, push, pull, and lift varying amounts of weight up to 50 lbs. Use protective equipment such as Hoyer lift, gait belt, gloves, gowns, masks, and needle disposition tools.
