Job summary

Avera McKennan Hospital is seeking a Flight RN to provide critical care nursing across Sioux Falls, Aberdeen, and Pierre bases. Expect 12-hour shifts, with some 24-hour rotations and weekends. Eligible for sign-on bonuses up to $15,000. Active RN license and CFRN/EMS credentials required within stated timelines.

Responsibilities include planning and delivering nursing care, coordinating with the health care team, and ensuring safety and compliance in a fast-paced flight environment.

Qualifications

  • Must have RN license in practicing state and meet job functions.
  • CFRN certification within 2 years and EMS certification within 90 days.
  • 1-3 years of critical care experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Delivers Nursing Care by developing a nursing diagnosis, establishing care objectives, and defining interventions.
  • Provides and coordinates patient care with physicians and health care team members.
  • Develops nursing care plans by obtaining histories, examining patients, and documenting status.
  • Teaches patients and families about conditions, medications, and self-care skills.
  • Evaluates patient care by measuring outcomes and adjusting plans.
  • Maintains safe patient care environment and adherence to infection control and regulations.
  • Documents patient care services by charting in patient and department records.
  • Keeps equipment and supplies ready, performing maintenance and restocking.

Position Highlights

For Flight RN:

  • Registered Nurse (RN) - Board of Nursing - An active license in the state of practice Upon Hire
  • Registered Nurse (Single) - Minnesota Board of Nursing within 180 Days
  • EMS - North Dakota Health and Human Services North Dakota EMS within 90 Days
  • Certified Flight Registered Nurse (CFRN) - Board of Certification for Emergency Nursing (BCEN) within 2 Years
  • Driver’s License - Licensing Board Upon Hire
  • 1-3 years Critical Care experience

****This is a float Flight RN position.

You will be working in our 3 bases located in Sioux Falls, Aberdeen, and Pierre, SD.

***May be eligible for a $6000 or $15,000 Sign on Bonus

Schedule

**Schedule: 12 hour shifts: 7:00am-7:30pm and 7:00pm-7:30am & some 24 hour; rotate every 3rd weekend/holiday. You will know your schedule 6 weeks in advance.

A Brief Overview

Delivers Nursing Care by developing a nursing diagnosis; establishing nursing care objectives; defining nursing interventions; providing physical, emotional, psychological, and spiritual support to patients, families, and friends to understand patient conditions, medications, and self-care skills; noting changing conditions and needs; re-evaluating care objectives.

What you will do Provides patient care by reviewing physician prescriptions; communicating the nursing care plan and all pertinent information to other members of the health care team; coordinating with other healthcare providers; providing physical, emotional, psychological, and spiritual support to patients, families, and friends; conferring with physicians.

Develops nursing care plans by obtaining medical histories; examining patients; documenting patient physical condition, psychological status, and influencing social factors; conferring with family and friends; developing a nursing diagnosis; establishing nursing care objectives; defining nursing interventions, schedules, and timetables.

Teaches healthcare requirements by establishing patient care goals; instructing patient, family, and friends to understand condition, medications, and self-care skills; answering questions; providing information and resources.

Evaluates patient care by adhering to therapeutic standards; measuring health outcomes against patient care standards; reviewing patient records; noting changing conditions and needs; re-evaluating care objectives; modifying nursing care plan.

Maintains safe, secure, and healthy patient care environment by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols, medication administration and storage procedures, and controlled substance regulations; adhering to organization standards and policies, and to legal regulations; alerting others regarding potential concerns.

Documents patient care services by charting in patient and department records.

Keeps patient care equipment operating by following operating instructions and established procedures; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining supplies; performing preventive maintenance; calling for repairs.

Keeps patient care supplies ready by checking stock; anticipating needs; placing and expediting orders; verifying receipt; stocking items.

Maintains competence in nursing capabilities outlined by leadership. All Careflight personnel are responsible for maintaining physical health and proper weight, not to exceed 240 pounds.
