Job summary

Avera McKennan Hospital is seeking a Flight RN to deliver bedside nursing care across our Sioux Falls, SD bases. You will coordinate with a multidisciplinary team, review orders, and support patients and families through critical care scenarios.

The role requires an active RN license, CFRN certification, and EMS credentials with 1–3 years of critical care experience. A sign-on bonus may be available and schedules include 12-hour shifts with rotation, across multiple bases.

Qualifications

• Must have RN license active in state of practice.
• CFRN certification within 2 years of hire.
• EMS certification within 90 days in state of practice.
• Driver's license required at hire.

Responsibilities

• Deliver nursing care by evaluating patient needs and coordinating with the healthcare team.
• Review physician prescriptions and communicate care plans to the team.
• Develop nursing care plans and document conditions and interventions.
• Educate patients and families on conditions, medications, and self-care skills.
• Maintain infection-control practices and safe patient environments.
• Chart patient care services in appropriate records.

Position Highlights

For Flight RN:

• Registered Nurse (RN) - Board of Nursing - An active license in the state of practice Upon Hire
• Registered Nurse (Single) - Minnesota Board of Nursing within 180 Days
• EMS - North Dakota Health and Human Services North Dakota EMS within 90 Days
• Certified Flight Registered Nurse (CFRN) - Board of Certification for Emergency Nursing (BCEN) within 2 Years
• Driver’s License - Licensing Board Upon Hire
• 1-3 years Critical Care experience

****This is a float Flight RN position.

You will be working in our 3 bases located in Sioux Falls, Aberdeen, and Pierre, SD.

***May be eligible for a $6000 or $15,000 Sign on Bonus

Schedule

**Schedule: 12 hour shifts: 7:00am-7:30pm and 7:00pm-7:30am & some 24 hour; rotate every 3rd weekend/holiday. You will know your schedule 6 weeks in advance.

A Brief Overview

Delivers Nursing Care by developing a nursing diagnosis; establishing nursing care objectives; defining nursing interventions; providing physical, emotional, psychological, and spiritual support to patients, families, and friends to understand patient conditions, medications, and self-care skills; noting changing conditions and needs; re-evaluating care objectives.

What you will do Provides patient care by reviewing physician prescriptions; communicating the nursing care plan and all pertinent information to other members of the health care team; coordinating with other healthcare providers; providing physical, emotional, psychological, and spiritual support to patients, families, and friends; conferring with physicians.

Develops nursing care plans by obtaining medical histories; examining patients; documenting patient physical condition, psychological status, and influencing social factors; conferring with family and friends; developing a nursing diagnosis; establishing nursing care objectives; defining nursing interventions, schedules, and timetables.

Teaches healthcare requirements by establishing patient care goals; instructing patient, family, and friends to understand condition, medications, and self-care skills; answering questions; providing information and resources.

Evaluates patient care by adhering to therapeutic standards; measuring health outcomes against patient care standards; reviewing patient records; noting changing conditions and needs; re-evaluating care objectives; modifying nursing care plan.

Maintains safe, secure, and healthy patient care environment by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols, medication administration and storage procedures, and controlled substance regulations; adhering to organization standards and policies, and to legal regulations; alerting others regarding potential concerns.

Documents patient care services by charting in patient and department records.

Keeps patient care equipment operating by following operating instructions and established procedures; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining supplies; performing preventive maintenance; calling for repairs.

Keeps patient care supplies ready by checking stock; anticipating needs; placing and expediting orders; verifying receipt; stocking items.

Maintains competence in nursing capabilities outlined by leadership. All Careflight personnel are responsible for maintaining physical health and proper weight, not to exceed 240 pounds.
