Responsible for facilitating transfers and direct admits, including transcribing physician telephone orders (if necessary), for all patients requiring admission to Erlanger Health System. This includes contacting and receiving acceptance from physicians for various patient types. Also responsible for assigning beds (Med/Surg, telemetry, Intensive Care) and activating the Rapid Response team. The Critical Care Nurse must maintain professionalism, demonstrate excellent communication skills, and provide age-appropriate interactive communication.
Required: Graduate from an accredited nursing school. De-escalation training, if applicable.
Preferred: Specialized courses in computer programs; BSN.
Required: Minimum 1 year of critical care experience within the last 5-10 years. Proficient in high-level nursing skills, evaluating ICU patients, and recognizing complications. Knowledge of nursing principles, policies, regulations, and current trends. Strong interpersonal, leadership, critical thinking, and decision-making skills. Organized and methodical. Knowledge of COBRA/EMTALA related to patient transfers. Able to work in confined spaces.
Preferred: Good organizational skills, computer proficiency, customer service skills, prior managerial experience, flexible, pleasant, and self-directed.
Required: Current Tennessee nursing license. CCRN or CEN certification (or obtain within 2 years). BLS certification prior to unit assignment and ongoing.
Facilitates patient transfers from other healthcare facilities and within the enterprise. Interacts with staff via phone, fax, email, and in person. Interfaces with physicians, registration, admissions, ED, and internal departments.
