Job summary

The George Washington University Hospital in Washington, DC seeks an Endoscopy Registered Nurse (RN) to provide specialized care before, during, and after endoscopic procedures. You will perform pre-procedure assessments, support during procedures, and post-procedure recovery while collaborating with physicians and anesthesia teams.

Ideal candidates bring an active RN license (DC or compact), at least 1 year of acute care RN experience, and BLS/ACLS certifications.

Position Summary

The Endoscopy Registered Nurse (RN) provides specialized nursing care for patients undergoing diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures. This role involves pre-procedure assessment, intra-procedure support, and post-procedure recovery care. The RN collaborates with physicians, anesthesia providers, and the interdisciplinary team to ensure safe, high-quality patient care in a fast-paced procedural setting.

Main Responsibilities

• Conduct pre-procedure assessments and patient education.
• Administer medications and moderate sedation per protocol.
• Monitor patient condition throughout procedures, responding promptly to changes.
• Provide recovery and discharge teaching to patients and families.
• Collaborate with physicians and team members to optimize workflow and patient safety.
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the EMR.
• Ensure compliance with infection prevention and safety standards and hospital policies.

Qualifications

Required

• Current RN license (DC or compact, must have by start date)
• Minimum 1 year of acute care RN experience
• BLS and ACLS certification (AHA or Red Cross)

Preferred

• Endoscopy or procedural RN experience
• BSN or higher degree in nursing
• Specialty certification (CGRN or equivalent)
