Description

The Registered Nurse in the Emergency Department provides direct and indirect patient care. They apply the nursing process to plan and implement patient care, including patient and family education and continuum of care planning. The RN must possess good communication skills and be able to effectively communicate with physicians, peers, patients, and families. They work collaboratively with all members of the healthcare team to ensure quality care is delivered. They will oversee LPN practices as directed by the unit director.

Essential Functions

• Providing nursing care appropriate to the condition and needs of the patient.
• Consulting and collaborating with physicians and other healthcare professionals.
• Establishing, reviewing, revising, and following the patient plan of care.
• Administering medications and treatments within the scope of practice for a Registered Nurse.
• Recording patient care activities, including assessment, reassessment, and ongoing treatment notes within the medical record.
• Using a variety of computer systems.
• Operating medical equipment used in patient care.
• Providing patient and family education related to treatment, diagnosis, medications, discharge, and self-care.
• Providing patient care following nursing standards of care to promote outcomes, avoid harm, and support health and healing.
• Overseeing LPN practices.
• Performing unit-specific duties.

Qualifications

Minimum Education: Must possess an active TN RN license or a compact state license with the intent to obtain a TN RN license within 30 days of hire.

Required Skills: BLS, ACLS, PALS, NRP, STABLE, HWC (Handle With Care) current or within specified timeframes; TNCC and ENPC preferred.

Additional Requirements

Must be able to read and communicate effectively in English, work under pressure, adapt quickly, function independently, and apply nursing knowledge flexibly.
