Qualifications

Job Title: RN- Emergency Dept - Days (7462-9482)

Job Summary: To render professional nursing care to a group of assigned patients within the hospital. Collaborates with medical staff and other members of the healthcare team to provide quality patient care. Performs all activities in accordance with approved policies and guides. Supervises and delegates appropriate duties to ancillary personnel.

Essential Functions:

  • Triage training and recognition of critical presentations (e.g., stroke, chest pain).
  • Medication reconciliation training and understanding.
  • IV starts and blood collection.
  • Identify and address patient/family care needs and problems promptly. Regularly assess and reassess patients. Evaluate and document patient responses to nursing and MD interventions and treatments.
  • Utilizing an interdisciplinary approach, initiate discharge planning to meet the discharge care needs of each patient.
  • Provide patient and family education regarding hospitalization/admission, medications, and preparation for discharge. Give appropriate discharge instructions, including follow-up and referral needs.
  • Use safe medication practices (Read Back, double checks) and document outcomes such as patient response to new medication, side effects, and adverse reactions. Complete medication reconciliation upon admission, transfer, and discharge.
  • Assist with orientation and training of others as directed.

Qualifications:

  • Associate’s Degree in Nursing required.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing preferred.

Required Skills:

  • Critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.

Certifications:

  • Basic Life Support (BLS).
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) within 3 months of hire or transfer.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) within 3 months of hire or transfer.
  • Handle with care within 4 months of hire.

Licenses:

Current RN license to practice in NC (NC licensure or multi-state (compact) license).

Minimum Work Experience: 1-3 years, with recent acute care experience within the past 3 years preferred.
