Join a trusted system with a Primary Stroke Center designation. The role includes permanent night shifts, 12-hour blocks, and a 3rd-weekend rotation, contributing to excellent patient outcomes and teamwork.

Qualifications

  • Tier 1 requires 1 year of RN ED experience or successful completion of RN ED orientation.
  • Tier 2 requires RN ED, EMS, or ICU patient care experience.
  • Tier 3 requires RN Acute Care experience including urgent care or New Graduate with ED/EMT/EMS experience.

Responsibilities

Job Summary

As an Emergency Room RN at Mercy Hospital in Coon Rapids, you will thrive in a fast‑paced, high‑acuity environment as part of the third busiest emergency department in Minnesota. Our 38‑bed, Level 2 Trauma Center provides comprehensive care for patients of all ages—from pediatrics to geriatrics. We are a Primary Stroke Center and an Accredited Chest Pain Center, ensuring you are part of a team delivering advanced, life‑saving care. Your ability to assess, stabilize, and respond quickly will make a meaningful impact every day.

Key Position Details
  • Tier 1: 1 year of RN ED experience or successful completion of RN ED orientation required
  • Tier 2: RN ED, EMS, or ICU patient care experience required
  • Tier 3: RN Acute Care experience including urgent care or New Graduate with ED/EMT/EMS experience required
  • 0.9 FTE (72 hours per two‑week pay period)
  • 12‑hour permanent night shifts

Job Description

Nursing is the diagnosis and treatment of human response to actual or potential health problems. This includes establishing an intentional therapeutic relationship between a registered nurse and a patient and family. As a leader and the integrator of care, the professional nurse has the responsibility, authority, and accountability for planning, coordinating and evaluating the patient’s care needs.

Treats patients who are suffering from trauma, injury or severe medical conditions that require urgent treatment.

Principle Responsibilities
  • Comprehensive assessment of patient and family needs; identification of outcomes based on needs assessment; establishing the plan of care; supervising the progress; and modification of the plan of care as needed.
  • Maintains education and competencies to remain proficient to provide high quality patient care practice and skills.
  • Incorporates evidence‑based nursing practice taking into consideration current statutes, rules and regulations when developing the plan of care.
  • Establishes, in collaboration with the family and patient, realistic and measurable patient expected outcomes based on nursing diagnoses, patients present and potential capabilities, goals, available resources and plan for continuity of care.
  • Identifies outcomes that are age appropriate, culturally appropriate, realistic and attainable.
  • Coordinates, collaborates, and delegates appropriately to ensure care is provided in a safe, effective fashion.
  • Fulfills all organizational requirements.
  • Supplemental roles:
    • Charge Nurse (only when acting in this role). Demonstrates ability to coordinate, delegate, and direct unit operation, collaborates effectively with unit staff, leadership and other disciplines.
    • Preceptor (only when acting in this role). Demonstrates ability to identify the orientee's learning needs, plans appropriate learning experiences and demonstrates ability to validate clinical competence of orientee.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • ED RN experience
Licenses/Certifications
  • Licensed Registered Nurse – MN Board of Nursing required if working in the state of MN upon hire / WI Department of Safety & Professional Services required if working in the state of WI upon hire
  • Must meet at least ONE of the requirements below:
    • Current ACLS certification from the American Heart Association
    • Current ALS certification from the American Red Cross
    • Allina in‑house ACLS training (within 60 days of hire)
  • Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) – Multisource required within 1 year
  • Additional certifications may be needed at certain sites:
    • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
    • Pediatric Advance Life Support (PALS) required within 180 days of hire
    • Other certifications may be required within 1 year of hire
Physical Demands
  • Medium Work*:
  • Lifting weight up to 32 lbs. occasionally (Allina Safe Patient Moving Policy), up to 25 lbs. frequently
Pay Range

Pay Range: $44.64 to $74.33 per hour. The pay described reflects the base hourly pay range. Your starting rate would depend on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, your experience, education, and the union agreement (if applicable). Shift, weekend and/or other differentials may be available to increase your pay rate for certain shifts or work.
