Job summary

Decatur Morgan Hospital is seeking a Registered Nurse to lead the healthcare team by forming authentic relationships with patients and families, collaborating with physicians to assess, plan, implement and evaluate individualized care plans.

Responsibilities include clinical practice and patient care, education, advocacy, documentation in the EHR, and participation in quality improvement. A nursing degree, Alabama licensure, and BLS are required; CMSRN is preferred.

Qualifications

• Uses common sense and clinical skills to care for patients.
• Understands technical information from supervisors and reference materials.
• Communicates clearly with patients, families and staff.
• Acts quickly in emergencies and provides life-saving care as needed.
• Records and interprets information accurately in the charting system.
• Able to care for patients of all ages, from young to elderly.
• Maintains current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Responsibilities

• Clinical Practice and Patient Care: perform assessments, develop and update care plans.
• Administer medications and treatments per policies and orders.
• Monitor responses and adjust the plan of care accordingly.
• Provide pre- and post-operative care including wound care and pain control.
• Promote early ambulation and discharge readiness; educate patients.
• Respond to emergencies with appropriate interventions.
• Educate patients and families about diagnoses, medications, and discharge.
• Advocate for patient safety, preferences and dignity.
• Coordinate with physicians, case managers and the team during rounds and handoffs.
• Document thoroughly in the electronic health record and participate in quality activities.
