Job summary

Valley Hope of Boonville is seeking a Director of Nursing (RN) to lead the medical nursing services at the residential treatment facility near Columbia, MO. The role oversees 24-hour nursing operations, medical case management, and staff development, ensuring high-quality care for patients in recovery.

The DON will supervise the ADON and nursing team, coordinate emergency care, uphold HIPAA and Joint Commission standards, and drive clinical improvements while managing budget and communications

Qualifications

  • Licensed RN to practice in the state of employment.
  • Six+ years of clinical nursing care experience.
  • Six+ years of progressive work and relevant industry experience.
  • Four+ years of supervisory/management experience.
  • CPR certification.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee medical nursing services for the residential facility, including 24-hour nursing and medical case management.
  • Supervise the Assistant Nursing Director and nursing staff with performance feedback and mentorship.
  • Ensure appropriate treatment during emergencies and adherence to policies for medical emergencies.
  • Lead quality improvement efforts in medical nursing services and coordinate with management.
  • Oversee medication administration and maintain patient confidentiality per HIPAA and regulations.

Valley Hope of Boonville, located just outside of Columbia off I-70, provides Missouri with residential and outpatient drug and alcohol addiction treatment services.

Valley Hope nurses specialize in making patients feel loved from the moment they walk in the door by providing compassionate medical care, key to the short and long-term success of patients in recovery. Nurses typically work with patients from admission to discharge, providing supportive medical care over 30-45 days of treatment, offering a unique treatment approach, and rewarding work experience with hands on help for patients to heal and recover in real time.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
REQUIRED:
  • Licensed as a Registered Nurse to practice in the state of employment.
  • Six (6) plus years of clinical nursing care work experience.
  • Six (6) plus years of progressive work and relevant industry experience
  • Four (4) plus years of supervisory and/or management experience.
  • Work experience with healthcare accreditation with preference within the substance abuse treatment industry.
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification.
PREFERRED:
  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing.
  • Eight (8) plus years of clinical nursing care work experience.
  • Eight (8) plus years of progressive work and relevant industry experience
  • Three (3) plus years of charge-nurse experience.
  • Six (6) plus years of supervisory and/or management experience.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
  • Certified Addictions Registered Nurse (CARN).

JOB SUMMARY:
  • Oversees and manages the medical nursing services for the residential treatment facility including 24-hour professional nursing services, medical case management, inpatient medical care treatment, and nursing orientation and training
  • Directly supervises the Assistant Nursing Director and all nursing staff. Provides routine performance feedback, ongoing leadership, and mentoring in support of staff development
  • Ensures proper and adequate treatment provided during emergencies by nursing staff and that established policies and procedures for all medical emergencies are consistently followed (i.e., convulsions, suicides, Delirium Tremens, etc.)
  • Participates in facility performance improvement activities and leads efforts specific to medical nursing services and improving nursing care quality. Collaborates with facility management staff to identify and implement improvement activities across the facility
  • Oversees and manages the security, control, and administration of drugs, medications, treatments, and tests as allowed by law
  • Maintains appropriate standards of patient confidentiality; ensures nursing staff adheres to all policies and procedures regarding patient information protection and HIPPA
  • Oversees and manages all medical nursing tasks and activities required to maintain compliance with Joint Commission as well as any other regulatory bodies
  • Leads effort to build the skills and competencies of the nursing staff as needed to meet minimum requirements as specified by customary standards of nursing practice, external accrediting agency guidelines, and internal organizational guidelines
  • Ensures effective communications between the medical department and all other clinical and support-service department.
  • Manages the facility’s medical nursing services annual budget to ensure financial goals are being achieved and budget met. Communicates areas of concern and issues to Program Director and/or Business Manager as appropriate
