Job summary

Loma Linda University Health is seeking a RN for the Critical Care Resource Team (CCRT) to provide highly skilled nursing across emergency, intensive, and acute levels for pediatric and adult patients with complex conditions.

The RN will participate in STEMI, stroke, Code Blue, Sepsis, and Rapid Response teams, support patient transport, and assist with admissions, transfers and discharges. On-call rotation may be required.

Qualifications

  • BSN required; ADN/ Diploma allowed if hired before 1 July 2020.
  • Minimum 3 years of clinical experience in adult ICU or emergency nursing.

Responsibilities

  • Support CCRT and patient care across units as needed.
  • Transport critically ill or cardiac monitored patients and assist with admissions/transfers/discharges.
  • Assist with difficult IV catheter placement and sedation support.
  • Serve as a consult to bedside nurses and participate in on-call rotations as needed.

Job Summary

The RN-Critical Care Resource Team (CCRT) is a highly skilled licensed registered nurse that functions in a fast-paced environment and is competent to provide all levels of care (emergency, intensive, step-down, acute) to pediatric and adult patients with complex medical conditions. Serves as a member of the Code Blue, Stroke, ST Elevation Myocardial Infarctions (STEMI), Sepsis and Rapid Response Teams. The CCRT RN does not have a physical home unit, but instead, functions out of a home department and readily accepts patient care assignments throughout the organization as needed to support patient care needs including, but not limited to, transporting critical and/or cardiac monitored patients, assisting nurses with patient lifts, placing difficult intravenous therapy catheters, performing procedural conscious sedation support and serving as a consult to other bedside nurses with complex patients and expediting admissions, transfers and discharges. Based on business needs, may be required to accept full or partial patient assignments. Utilizes discretion and independent judgment in applying the nursing process to the provision of age-specific and developmentally appropriate quality patient care whether on an inpatient unit, emergency department or in ancillary clinical care areas. Serves as an exemplary role model in patient care delivery methods and consistently demonstrates an advanced level of clinical practice, communication and documentation. Facilitates the empowerment of the nursing profession and excels in implementing new knowledge, innovations and improvements in practice to enhance the patient experience and clinical outcomes. Applies theoretical concepts to clinical practice and continually expands knowledge base and clinical skills with a focus in critical care and sedation. Utilizes interpersonal skills to maximize excellence in customer service, safe patient care and professionalism. Contributes to a work environment of caring and cooperation among a culturally diverse workforce and patient population. May be required to participate in on-call rotation based on department business needs. Performs other duties as needed.

Education and Experience

Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing (BSN) required. If hired into position prior to July 1, 2020, an Associate Degree or Diploma Degree in Nursing required. Minimum three years of clinical experience in adult intensive care or emergency nursing required.

Knowledge and Skills

Physical and emotional stamina to care for a variety of patients throughout the organization in one shift and perform patient lifts and transports with good body mechanics for all sizes of patients. Able to work in confined spaces and skillfully adapt to a variety of clinical settings. Demonstrates proficient competencies in emergency, critical care, intermediate and acute care clinical nursing. Ability to apply theoretical concepts to clinical practice and continually expands knowledge base and clinical skills with a focus in critical care, sedation and patient transport. Basic knowledge of healthcare regulations and accreditation required. Exhibits professional behavior at all times. Able to: speak, read and write legibly in English (and Spanish preferred) with professional quality; use computer, printer and software programs necessary to the position, e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, electronic medical record, electronic event reporting program; troubleshoot and calibrate patient care equipment; perform technical patient care activities; relate and communicate positively, effectively and professionally with others; be assertive and consistent in following and/or enforcing policies; work calmly and respond courteously when under pressure; lead, supervise, teach and collaborate; accept direction; think critically; work independently with minimal supervision; perform basic math and statistical functions; manage multiple assignments effectively; organize and prioritize workload; problem solve; recall information with accuracy; pay close attention to detail; distinguish colors and smells as necessary for patient care; hear sufficiently for general conversation in person and on the telephone; identify and distinguish various sounds associated with the work place; see adequately to read computer screens, medical records and written documents necessary to position; discern temperature variances through touch.

Licensures and Certifications

Active California Registered Nurse (RN) license required. Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association required. Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification issued by the American Heart Association required within 90 days of hire. Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN) preferred. Other certifications required as listed in the department-specific Plan for Providing Care.
