Job summary

Allina Health is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse with critical care expertise to join our ICU team in Minnesota. The role requires strong assessment, planning and coordination to deliver high-quality patient care.

You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, ensure evidence-based practice, and support ongoing staff development. Responsibilities include comprehensive care planning, outcome-based nursing, and adapting to patient needs across shifts.

Qualifications

  • Associate's or Vocational degree in nursing.
  • 2 to 5 years RN experience in critical care settings.
  • Active RN license for MN or WI; ACLS/ALS certifications or in-house ACLS training.

Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive patient and family assessments and plan care.
  • Coordinate and delegate to ensure safe, effective nursing care.
  • Maintain competencies and apply evidence-based nursing practice.
  • Establish measurable patient outcomes with family input.
  • Provide care across neonatal to adult populations as assigned.
  • Support unit operations and precept new staff if required.

Nursing is the diagnosis and treatment of human response to actual or potential health problems. This includes establishing an intentional therapeutic relationship between a registered nurse and a patient and family. As a leader and the integrator of care, the professional nurse has the responsibility, authority, and accountability for planning, coordinating and evaluating the patient’s care needs.

Provides specialized care to patients who are severely ill or injured. May practice in an intensive care unit or in a care area that requires the expertise of the critical care nurse.

Principle Responsibilities
  • Comprehensive assessment of patient and family needs; identification of outcomes based on needs assessment; establishing the plan of care; supervising the progress; and modification of the plan of care as needed.
  • Maintains education and competencies to remain proficient to provide high quality patient care practice and skills.
  • Incorporates evidence-based nursing practice taking into consideration current statutes, rules and regulations when developing the plan of care.
  • Establishes, in the collaboration with the family and patient, realistic and measurable patient expected outcomes based on nursing diagnoses, patients present and potential capabilities, goals, available resources and plan for continuity of care.
  • Identifies outcomes that are age appropriate, culturally appropriate, realistic and attainable.
  • Coordinates, collaborates, and delegates appropriately to ensure care is provided in a safe, effective fashion.
  • Fulfills all organizational requirements.
  • Supplemental roles:
    • Charge Nurse (only when acting in this role).
    • Demonstrates ability to coordinate, delegate, and direct unit operation, collaborates effectively with unit staff, leadership and other disciplines.
    • Preceptor (only when acting in this role).
    • Demonstrates ability to identify the orientee's learning needs, plans appropriate learning experiences and demonstrates ability to validate clinical competence of orientee.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • Associate's or Vocational degree
  • 2 to 5 years RN experience
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree
  • 0 to 2 years critical care RN experience
Licenses/Certifications
  • Licensed Registered Nurse – MN Board of Nursing required if working in state of MN upon hire / WI Department of Safety & Professional Services required if working in the state of WI upon hire
  • Must meet at least ONE of the requirements below:
  • Current ACLS certification from the American Heart Association
  • Current ALS certification from the American Red Cross
  • Allina in-house ACLS training (within 60 days of hire)
  • Certified Critical Care RN - American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN) preferred
  • RN-C in appropriate to department specialty preferred
  • SCRN Stroke Certified RN preferred
Physical Demands
  • Medium Work*
  • Lifting weight up to 32 lbs. occasionally (*Allina Safe Patient Moving Policy), up to 25 lbs. frequently
  • Tier 1: Successful completion of Mercy ICU orientation or 1 year recent ICU experience required
  • Tier 2: 1 year recent critical care step down, telemetry or emergency department experience required
  • Tier 3 : 1 year recent medical/surgical experience required. Will consider new graduates who completed a capstone course in ICU
  • 0.9 FTE (72 hours per two-week pay period)
  • 12-hour Day/Night shifts
  • Every 3rd weekend
Pay Range

Pay Range: $44.64 to $74.33 per hour

The pay described reflects the base hourly pay range. Your starting rate would depend on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, your experience, education, and the union agreement (if applicable). Shift, weekend and/or other differentials may be available to increase your pay rate for certain shifts or work.
