Description:The Registered Nurse (RN) plans and provides comprehensive nursing care.This includes executing Licensed Independent Provider orders and dispensing medications.The RN assists Licensed Independent Providers in examinations and treatments of patients.The role requires applying nursing and supervisory techniques for the care of individuals.The RN performs all technical and clinical procedures within the scope of education and licensure.Appropriate nursing skills are applied in the care and treatment of individuals.The RN attends sick calls with the physician to assess individuals.Preparation of lists for examination and readiness of the examining room and equipment is necessary.The RN operates pill call, dispenses medication, and documents as required by applicable policies.Communication with Licensed Independent Providers for medication and treatment orders is essential.Examinations and assessments are conducted for individuals with illnesses or injuries.Referrals may be made to emergency rooms or other healthcare facilities as required.Emergency procedures are performed as needed, and Licensed Independent Providers are notified for treatment orders.The RN assists in coordinating professional medical services provided by contract personnel.Guidance and supervision of nursing care by licensed vocational/practical nursing staff is provided.A good working relationship with facility staff, nursing staff, and outside provider agencies is maintained.Established corporate and facility policies are utilized in decision-making, using sound independent judgment.Regular evaluations of medical services help prevent inappropriate use or service duplication.There is an absolute commitment to maintaining security and confidentiality of all medical records.The RN assists in reviewing medical files to ensure all services are documented.Close monitoring of potential catastrophic illnesses is performed.Pharmacy use is audited for adherence to formulary as required.Compliance with all applicable pharmacy laws, especially those covering controlled substances, is required.Observation and recording of individual behavior is part of the responsibilities.Inspections of the medical unit for items that could be used as contraband are conducted.Health counseling and health education are provided on an individual or group basis as necessary.The RN assists in preparing and maintaining various records, reports, and logs in a timely manner.Reading, analyzing, comprehending, and interpreting medical and technical procedures is expected.Processing and responding to lawsuits may be required, including attending court hearings.Facilitation of accreditation of the medical program is part of ensuring efficient and appropriate medical services.Safety and accident reports are prepared and disseminated as required by policies.Appropriate actions in cases of serious incidents and emergencies are taken.
