Job description

Overview

As a member of the interdisciplinary team, you will contribute professional nursing knowledge and skills in the provision and management of care to patients through the application of the nursing process.

Qualifications

Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) within 3 months - American Heart Association (AHA); Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) within 1 year - American Heart Association (AHA); Licensed Registered Professional Nurse (RN) - Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR).
Education: Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (Required).
Work Experience: Registered Nurse.

Responsibilities

CLINICAL EXCELLENCE FOCUS: Promotes evidence-based practice through the nursing process, protocols, and procedures.

  1. Assess patient's status through interview, observation, and physical assessment of actual problems and outcomes.
  2. Develop an individualized plan of care using a collaborative approach with the patient/family and healthcare team.
  3. Use appropriate interventions identified in the plan of care to achieve expected patient outcomes.
  4. Evaluate and document patient's progress toward expected outcomes/goals continuously throughout the shift.
  5. Modify plan of care based on evaluation and changes in patient condition.
  6. Complete required documentation, including patient chart and event reports.
  7. Demonstrate professional accountability by seeking resources and self-development.
  8. Maintain technical knowledge of equipment and troubleshoot issues.
  9. Stay current with evidence-based nursing practices.
  10. Promote professional development of self and team members.
  11. Share clinical knowledge through informal teaching and responding to learning needs.
  12. Apply practical problem-solving for patient moving and handling issues.
  13. Use lift equipment appropriately to promote safety.
  14. Obtain and handle lab specimens adequately.
  15. Perform bedside lab testing and quality control following medical orders and lab procedures.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & CULTURE FOCUS: Coordinate interdisciplinary patient care, utilize resources, and prioritize tasks based on patient condition.

  1. Analyze clinical situations systematically and act to resolve issues.
  2. Recognize when assistance is needed and utilize resources promptly.
  3. Take ownership to resolve problems effectively.
  4. Manage assignments with some complexity and turnover.
  5. Prioritize work based on patient needs and interruptions.
  6. Utilize team resources to address problems.
  7. Organize tasks for patient care from admission to discharge.
  8. Delegate tasks appropriately within the team.
  9. Provide goal-focused shift reports.
  10. Advocate for patients with physicians.
  11. Promote high team performance through effective communication and teamwork.
  12. Use appropriate communication styles and accept constructive feedback.

PATIENT EDUCATION FOCUS: Assess and select teaching strategies suitable for the patient's/family's age and needs.

  1. Adapt teaching based on patient response, readiness, and comprehension.
  2. Consider cultural, age, gender, and developmental factors in education.
  3. Follow safety policies and adhere to National Patient Safety Goals.
  4. Consult hospital resources for specialized education.
  5. Use the SVI patient education system for patient and family education.

Compensation and Benefits
