RN Clinical Unit Supervisor MedSurg/Tele 3rd Flr FT Days

The Clinical Unit Supervisor is a skilled and experienced Registered Nurse (RN) responsible for clinical excellence and management of Medical-Surgical and Telemetry nursing care. Reporting to the Nurse Manager of Medical Surgical Nursing, the supervisor has 12-hour accountability for organizing, planning, directing, coordinating, and providing high-quality, patient/family-centered care based on the Watson Model of Care, including meeting the needs of different age groups and populations. The supervisor promotes employee growth and ensures patient advocacy under the direction of the Nurse Manager and Director. This role requires understanding and active participation in the hospital's mission, demonstrating behavior aligned with its Core Values, and supporting its strategic plan and quality improvement activities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Serve as the primary liaison to Medical Staff and other personnel, demonstrating positive interpersonal relationships.
  • Collaborate with Care Management for patient admission, transfer, and discharge processes.
  • Proactively anticipate staffing needs and respond accordingly.
  • Assume shift accountability by setting goals to ensure sensitive, caring, and cost-effective care in an environment of compassion and respect, through effective teamwork and rounding.
  • Assign patient beds considering patient condition, physician orders, unit capacity, and staffing.
  • Determine appropriate shift assignments based on staff skills, patient acuity, and other relevant factors.
  • Assign break times and ensure licensed personnel are relieved for breaks in compliance with regulations.
  • Provide direct patient care as needed, responding to unit needs.
  • Maintain a safe, clean environment adhering to regulatory standards.
  • Foster a positive work environment, act as a role model, and promote service excellence to improve customer satisfaction.
  • Resolve complaints or conflicts involving patients, families, and physicians.
  • Participate in interviewing and hiring processes, ensuring new hires complete orientation within 90 days.
  • Assist in employee performance evaluations and make recommendations.
  • Review payroll and enter corrections as needed.
  • Report risk events to appropriate hospital leaders and follow up as necessary.
  • Participate in quality and performance improvement activities, monitoring and reporting findings.
  • Maintain knowledge of policies and procedures, acting as a resource for staff.
  • Assist with electronic scheduling and balance schedules per protocol.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

A. Education

  • Bachelor of Science degree in nursing required.

B. Qualifications/Experience

  • At least three (3) years of clinical nursing experience in Medical/Surgical/Telemetry, with knowledge of regulatory guidelines and standards; minimum one (1) year of supervisory experience. Internal candidates considered at management's discretion.
  • Certification in Medical/Surgical Nursing preferred.
  • Basic EKG Competence required.

C. Skills/Knowledge

  • Bilingual skills (Spanish) preferred.
  • Basic computer skills required.
  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications required.
  • Experience with Electronic Medical Records preferred.
