Job summary

Allegheny General Hospital, part of Allegheny Health Network, seeks an experienced registered nurse to lead the 8A Surgical/Transplant unit, a 38-bed telemetry team caring for kidney and liver transplant patients and abdominal surgery.

The role directs nursing care across assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation, ensuring staffing, data quality, and staff development; requires PA RN license (or multi-state via eNLC) and a BSN preferred, with supervisory experience a plus.

Qualifications

• BSN preferred; supervisory experience and specialty certification are desired.

THE UNIT

The Allegheny General 8A Surgical/Transplant Unit is a 38 bed telemetry unit specializing in the care of abdominal transplant and colorectal surgical patients. Transplant care is provided primarily to kidney and liver patients, and abdominal care may include surgical oncology, pancreas, and kidney. The unit also sees trauma overflow patients.

GENERAL OVERVIEW

Directs and provides professional nursing care to patients through the process of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation; coordinates the daily clinical and operational components of the unit.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

• Oversees , monitors and collects data related to the facility and department's quality and satisfaction measures.
• Serves as the clinical expert and role model for staff. Monitors and mentors staff performance and follows up appropriately with staff. May perform these duties in a supervisory capacity.
• Demonstrates effective leadership skills by effective communication and interpersonal skills. Enhance professional relationships and achieves desired outcomes.
• Utilizes the nursing process in providing and coordinating the plan of patient care for the age appropriate population.
• Assures appropriate staffing levels and staffing mix to optimize routine operations within the context of productivity requirements.
• Performs other duties as assigned or required

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum

• Bachelor's Degree Nursing or relevant experience and/or education as determined by the company in lieu of Bachelor's Degree.
• Current State of PA RN licensure OR Current multi-state licensure through the enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC).

Preferred

• BSN
• 3 years' experience in clinical specialty
• Previous supervisory experience
• Certification in area of specialty
