Position Summary

The Clinical Staff PACU Nurse is a skilled and experienced professional Registered Nurse (RN) responsible for excellence in nursing practice and patient care management. Working under the supervision of the Clinical Unit Supervisor, the Clinical Staff Nurse has 8-hour accountability for organizing, planning, directing, coordinating, and providing high-quality, individualized, patient/family-centered care based on the Watson Model of Care for a defined group of patients. This includes identifying and demonstrating abilities to meet the specific needs of different age groups and populations. The position requires full understanding and active participation in fulfilling the Mission of Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Hospital, demonstrating behaviors aligned with the Core Values. The employee shall support the hospital's strategic plan and quality and performance improvement activities.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  1. Utilize nursing processes as a problem-solving model; anticipate and plan to meet patient and family needs.
  2. Conduct assessments targeting the most productive areas for the patient population or situation. Recognize subtle changes in clinical status and adjust the care plan accordingly.
  3. Prioritize and organize patient care, ensuring follow-through with planned interventions.
  4. Provide age-appropriate care, demonstrating necessary knowledge and skills for the patient population served.
  5. Apply current research and critical thinking to make sound clinical decisions.
  6. Demonstrate the hospital's Patient Satisfaction efforts when interacting with patients, families, and colleagues.
  7. Develop and maintain therapeutic nurse-patient relationships, respecting patient rights in line with hospital values and mission.
  8. Conduct hourly rounding on patients.
  9. Use SBAR communication in all hand-off situations.
  10. Document patient care accurately, including assessments, interdisciplinary plans, interventions, evaluations, and adherence to the Watson Model of Care.
  11. Anticipate variables affecting patient comfort and modify interventions accordingly, involving patients and families in recovery processes.
  12. Meet the learning needs of patients and families, utilizing appropriate resources to achieve positive outcomes.
  13. Collaborate with Care Managers on discharge planning and coordinate interdisciplinary efforts.
  14. Review orders and communicate patient condition changes with physicians and team members; follow up on revised care plans.
  15. Evaluate nursing interventions and document outcomes.
  16. Use patient classification systems according to standards.
  17. Supervise and evaluate ancillary staff, floats, and registry personnel, ensuring evaluations are completed each shift.
  18. Maintain professional appearance, adhere to dress code, wear ID badges, and promote proper identification.
  19. Maintain a safe, clean environment complying with regulatory standards, including Patient Safety Goals.
  20. Participate in Quality and Performance Improvement initiatives, complete monitoring, and report findings.
  21. Perform any additional duties assigned by the Director of Perioperative Services to prepare the unit for hospital opening.

Position Requirements

  1. Education: Bachelor's degree in nursing preferred; Associate's degree required.
  2. Experience: Minimum one (1) year of clinical nursing experience in Critical Care, or one year of acute care nursing for new specialty nurses.
  3. Licenses/Certifications: Current California RN license; BLS and ACLS certifications; Post Anesthesia Nursing certification preferred.
  4. Skills: Bilingual in Spanish preferred; basic computer skills; EMR experience; CPI Blue Card within 90 days of hire or as required.
