Unit Details: The UNC REX Post Anesthesia Care Unit is divided into two units: PACU East with 22 PACU bays and 8 OR Holding & Preoperative bays, and PACU West with 13 Phase I bays and 20 Phase II bays. The PACU handles cases in orthopedics, neuro, thoracic, general, bariatrics, plastic, urology, and endoscopy. It provides recovery services for adult and pediatric surgical and medical diagnostic procedures. Our PACUs are multidisciplinary, fostering collaboration among anesthesiology, surgery, and critical care teams.
Schedule and Call Requirements: PACU nurses have set schedules alternating weekly, supporting work/life balance. Call duties include a Saturday or Sunday day shift every 12 weeks, plus two 8-hour holiday shifts annually, with a rotating schedule to prevent consecutive holidays.
Education Requirements: Graduation from a professional nursing school; enrollment in a BSN or MSN program within four years if hired after January 6, 2014, with completion within seven years.
Licensure/Certification: RN license in North Carolina; BLS certification.
Experience: Minimum one year of nursing experience.
