Service Lines: Burn, Oral Maxillofacial Surgery, Adult Dental, Pulmonary, and GI.

This is a per diem, at-will position requiring the ability to work at least 12 hours every two weeks. No nights, no weekends, no UNC-recognized holidays.

Summary: Provides competent clinical nursing care consistent with professional standards. Reporting to the Nurse Manager/Director, the Clinical Nurse is responsible for coordinating and delivering patient care using the nursing process in a hospital setting.

Responsibilities:
  1. Education: Participates in identifying and meeting learning needs of self. Attends education programs based on identified needs. Uses patient education materials relevant to the patient population. Assesses readiness to learn of the patient, family, and caregivers. Assesses developmental level and factors affecting ability to learn.
  2. Evaluation of Care: Identifies expected patient outcomes. Seeks guidance as needed for care plan revisions. Participates in interdisciplinary discussions to evaluate patient care. Communicates relevant information to promote continuity of care.
  3. Implementation: Demonstrates competence in caring for patients with complex problems, including physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety aspects. Performs bedside point of care testing as required. Uses healthcare standards, policies, and procedures. Organizes and prioritizes care. Consults with resources regarding complex care issues or discharge planning.
  4. Leadership: Develops goals for professional growth with assistance. Achieves goals or renegotiates with supervisor. Promotes collaboration and participates in unit goals and performance improvement. Uses communication systems effectively. Promotes cost-effective care and provides feedback to colleagues. Aware of policies and regulations affecting healthcare. Ensures a safe hospital environment.
  5. Patient Assessment: Recognizes data to determine care priorities, including physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety needs. Synthesizes assessment data. Anticipates discharge needs. Builds relationships with families to support advocacy.
  6. Planning: Collaborates with patients and families to develop or update care plans. Uses multidisciplinary resources. Addresses cultural and ethnic considerations. Prioritizes tasks for complex patients.
  7. Research: Reads relevant journals and shares applicable ideas and questions with staff.
Other Information

Education Requirements: Graduation from a school of professional nursing.

Licensure/Certification Requirements: Licensed as a Registered Nurse in North Carolina, BLS for Healthcare Providers.

Professional Experience Requirements: One year of nursing experience.
