The UNC REX Emergency Department includes 54 beds, a dedicated behavioral health area with 8 private rooms, major resuscitation rooms, triage rooms, in-department radiology, and a decontamination room. We care for patients with various needs, including life-threatening situations, minor injuries, and behavioral health issues. Our Chest Pain Center and Advanced Thrombectomy-Capable Stroke Center provide specialized care. Our leadership emphasizes teamwork and recognition in a fast-paced environment.

Summary:

Provides competent clinical nursing care in accordance with professional standards, reporting to the Nurse Manager/Director. Responsible for coordinating and delivering patient care using the nursing process in a hospital setting.

Responsibilities:

  1. Education: Participates in identifying and meeting learning needs, attends educational programs, uses relevant patient education materials, and assesses readiness to learn.
  2. Evaluation of Care: Identifies expected outcomes, revises care plans as needed, participates in interdisciplinary discussions, and communicates to promote continuity.
  3. Implementation: Demonstrates competence in caring for patients with complex issues, performs bedside testing, follows standards and policies, organizes care, and consults resources appropriately.
  4. Leadership: Develops professional goals, participates in team activities, promotes cost-effective care, and maintains awareness of policies and safety.
  5. Patient Assessment: Recognizes data to prioritize care, assesses discharge needs, and builds relationships with families to support advocacy.
  6. Planning: Collaborates with patients and families, utilizes multidisciplinary resources, and addresses cultural issues in care planning.
  7. Research: Engages with current literature and shares ideas for practice improvement.

Education Requirements: Graduation from a nursing school; enrolled in or completed a Bachelor's or Master's in Nursing within specified timelines.

Licensure/Certification Requirements: RN license in North Carolina; BLS certification.

Professional Experience Requirements: At least 1 year of nursing experience.
