Job summary

UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, TX seeks an experienced clinical trainer to develop, train, and evaluate ambulatory staff in Epic documentation and ordering. You will update training content with upgrades and work with providers to ensure competency in the medical record.

The role requires RN licensure, a Bachelor's degree, and 3–5 years of Epic implementation/optimization experience. Strong MS Office skills and knowledge of Epic modules are essential for success.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree required.
  • 3–5 years of experience with implementation and/or optimization of clinical documentation and ordering in Epic.
  • Working knowledge of major Epic modules and workflows (EpicCare Inpatient, ASAP, OpTime, Beacon, Phoenix, Stork, EpicCare Ambulatory and Anesthesia).
  • PC proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Visio, Word).

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and optimization of order sets.
  • Drive Epic optimization projects for quality and safety across clinical areas.
  • Collaborate with care providers to develop new workflows and education materials.
  • Represent quality perspectives in EHR governance meetings (UH context).
  • Participate in working groups (lab nursing partnership, medication safety, etc.).
  • Identify opportunities to improve clinical decision support and workflows.
  • Coordinate with Quality and Safety staff on reporting, registries, and accreditation.
  • Maintain focus on patient safety and EMR design quality.
  • Stay updated on EMR processes and literature.
  • Communicate progress of EMR initiatives to the EMR teams.

JOB SUMMARY

Works under with minimal direction to develop, train, and evaluate clinical training for ambulatory staff. This position is responsible to update all training material and content with each upgrade, work with clinical providers to ensure competency with electronic documentation in the medical record.

Experience

  • 3 years to five (5) years of experience with implementation and/or optimization of clinical documentation and ordering in Epic. and
  • Working knowledge of the major clinical Epic modules and workflows at UTSW (EpicCare Inpatient, ASAP, OpTime, Beacon, Phoenix, Stork, EpicCare Ambulatory and Anesthesia and
  • PC proficient including but not limited to Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Visio, Word, etc.) and

(RN) REGISTERED NURSE - Active Registered Nurse (RN) license Upon Hire

JOB DUTIES
  • Primary facilitator of the process for development and optimization of order sets.
  • Responsible for EPIC optimization projects for quality & safety involving work flow in different clinical areas.
  • Works closely with care providers on new work flows and helps develop meaningful and important education/tip sheets as well as just in time explanations in the EHR.
  • Attend EHR governance meetings that have to do with UH and represent the quality perspective .
  • Attend working groups as needed such as lab nursing partnership and medication safety as well as other quality and safety council meetings in ad hoc fashion.
  • Identify opportunities for more effective clinical decision support that positively impact clinical operations on the hospital. Help drive implementation of that clinical decision support or work flow optimization
  • Work closely with other Quality and Safety staff on important topics such as mandatory reporting, registries, project management, medication safety, patient safety and accreditation as needed.
  • Maintains focus on patient safety and quality as hallmarks of the design and reporting capabilities of the EMR.
  • Maintains strong skills and understanding of the EMR process and project, including relevant literature review.
  • Participates in key work groups to ensure that staff ideas and concerns are integrated.
  • Communicates with the entire EMR teams regarding the progress of the EMR initiative on a regular, timely basis.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
