Job summary

UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas is seeking an experienced RN to provide nursing services under the supervision of physicians, advanced practice providers, and nursing leadership.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an approved/accredited nursing program.
  • 1 year of RN experience.
  • Current Texas RN license (or BNE Compact State) and BLS certification.
  • BSN degree preferred.
  • Professional certification in nursing organization preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Delivers nursing interventions per care plan and records patient response.
  • Schedules tests and procedures and reinforces physician instructions.
  • Provides patient education and documents outcomes.
  • Ensures appropriate patient consents for research and treatment.
  • Triages patient calls per protocols and logs actions.
  • Supervises licensed vocational nurses and support staff.
  • Maintains EMR documentation and participates in policy updates.
  • Prepares equipment and assists during exams and procedures.
  • Prepares and administers medications as prescribed.
  • Inspects equipment and maintains patient safety and supplies.
  • Attends meetings related to clinical activities.
  • Duties may include core functions with direct patient care or research records.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
Required
  • Education Graduate of an approved/accredited nursing program either by a governmental authority, nursing board, or a licensing authority which has jurisdiction over approval/accreditation of nursing programs (Texas BON 217.1).
  • Experience 1 year of RN experience.
  • Licenses and Certifications (NLC) NURSING LICENSURE COMPACT-BNE , current Texas (or BNE Compact State) license Upon Hire and
    (BLS) BASIC LIFE SUPPORT course accredited by the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC). Upon Hire
    Specialty areas may have increased experience/certification requirements as dictated by unit or standard of care. Upon Hire

JOB DUTIES
  • Delivers nursing interventions to assigned patients that are consistent with stated medical plan of care utilizing the nursing process to assess, implement, and record patients' response in the medical record.
  • Schedules patients' appointments, tests, and procedures via on-line computer system or telephone, and reinforces physician instructions in person and through telephone contact.
  • Provides patient education and documents patient's response in medical record.
  • Ensures appropriate patient consents and authorizations are obtained for research and/or medical treatment.
  • Triages patient phone inquiries according to physician and/or departmental protocols and documents such actions in patients' medical records.
  • Provides working supervision and delegates tasks to licensed vocational nurses, non-licensed medical staff, or office support personnel.
  • Proficiency in electronic medical record documentation.
  • Participates in the recommendation of policy and/or procedural changes according to nursing expertise.
  • Prepares equipment and assists physicians during physical exams and medical procedures.
  • Prepares and administers medications as prescribed by physician.
  • Inspects equipment and facilities visually and physically to ensure patient safety and proper functioning of equipment.
  • Maintains adequate stock of supplies as required for work area.
  • Attends and participates in meetings related to clinical activities.
  • Duties performed may include one or more of the following core functions:
    (a)Directly interacting with or caring for patients;
    (b)Directly interacting with or caring for human-subjects research participants;
    (c)Regularly maintaining, modifying, releasing or similarly affecting patient records (including patient financial records); or
    (d)Regularly maintaining, modifying, releasing or similarly affecting human-subjects research records.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
